“A Nice Accent to a Day in the Country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Old Edgefield Grill is not new to me. I remember when it opened some years ago. I came regularly for lunch because I worked in the area. I took another job in another community a few years back, so it was a pleasure to return to the restaurant for an early Valentines Day lunch. The atmosphere remains charming. The server was excellent and well versed in the menu offerings. We enjoyed a waldorf chicken salad, the beet salad, fried green tomatos, some delicious desserts, and the mushroom leek soup. Although everything was delicious, we suggest a change in the menu descriptions for the Waldorf chicken salad and the beet salad. The menu described the chicken salad as containing "pulled chicken". What was presented appeared to be chicken which was not pulled but ground and molded as many commercially prepared chicken salad appears. The beet salad had a medley of delighfully dressed fresh greens but the few beets present were less than the diameter of a finger tip. When asked about this, our waiter explained that the cost of organic beets prohibits the restaurant from using a larger cut or greater quanity of beets. We suggest renaming the dish so that the diner does not expect beets to be the star of the salad or eliminating it from from the menu. The fried green tomatos were good. We suggest ordering it without the bacon dressing. We found the heavy smokiness of the bacon clashing with the tartness of the tomato. We would have preferred a lighter fruiter dressing. The mushroom soup was also good but left us wondering if it was indeed homemade because we have had canned soup of the same quality. The desserts were wonderful. Love the strawberry lime cheese cake. All in all, this restaurant is a jewel in a location where one would not expect to find sophisticated cuisine.

“An unexpected find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised to find this jewel of a restaurant in Edgefield, since it serves the quality of food you'd expect in a much larger city. Beautiful old mansion location just off the town square. We ate on the front porch and everything was excellent. I highly recommend the She Crab Soup.

“A Great Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

My wife and I live in Augusta (about a 30-45 minute drive to Edgfield) and we try to make it to this restaurant once a month. My wife stumbled across Old Edfield Grill while on an antiquing trip and loved it. We went together the very next day and I was quite pleased. The food is outstanding. The atmosphere is great. Old Edfield Grill rivals the most talked about places in Augusta. Right up there with frog hollow, calverts, crumbs, and places like that. We certainly do not mind the drive once and a while and highly recommend that anyone in the area make the short trip down the road and give this restaurant a try. Outstang meals, fantastic service, and all around a wonderful experience!

“Excellent lunch and interesting menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

We had read the reviews and stopped in for lunch. Seafood was from SC coast. The menu was interesting and contained many appealing choices. The building is a restored residence and contains several dining rooms. We were seated in the Strom Thurmond room, which reflected the Senator's contributions to SC.

We were told that the menu changes regularly, so check their web site.
