Been staying here on and off for the past 3 years and it's all been pretty good up until the last few stays. Our daughter attends USC so this hotel is pretty convenient. We just returned from a two night stay and was very disappointed. We don't know when they started allowing guests to bring their dogs but there were a lot of guests with dogs. I had noticed on their website they offered a package price for the over 55 group that "waved the dog fee" and I wonder if people jumped on it? There were dogs in the hallways, dogs barking in the hallways, and even a few at breakfast! We love our dog but she goes to the kennel and not to the hotel. There was also a lot of children running around during cocktail hour, in the early morning, and because of the design of the hotel the noise level is very high as it echoes up the middle of the hotel and into the rooms. The floors in the lobby, elevator, and even the eating area/cocktail area were soaking wet from kids running around in dripping bathing suits. Cocktail hour was more like Chuck E. Cheese than an Embassy Suites. This was not the first time we encountered a lot of unsupervised children at this Embassy Suites. We had to wait to get drinks while all the kids were ordering non-alcoholic drinks at the bar! At one point I considered sitting with the parents of some of these kids since they were at the only quiet table, their kids were running all over the lobby and restaurant bothering everyone else BUT them. When did people become so inconsiderate in public places?
While I'm on the subject of the "Manager's Reception/cocktail hour," They serve cheap tortilla chips, salsa, and pretzels, they have served the exact same thing for three years at every single Manager's Reception! We have been to Embassy Suites that all have fantastic food, snacks and beverages for their nightly cocktail hours.
This is a franchise Embassy Suites and is not ruled by Hilton at all! You get charged if you want internet unless you get someone nice at the desk that decides you are worthy of free internet, totally unlike all the other Hilton Hotels.
The hotel is starting to show it's age and the rooms are a bit dark. The pull-out sofa bed "blanket" consisted of an old, thin, crusty corduroy throw. We asked for a real blanket and after an hour called the front desk again to ask where it was. We then received 3 blankets from two people.
We have stayed at other hotels in the area over the past three years we have visited Columbia and will go back to one of those hotels in August for move in at USC. We don't plan to go back any time soon to this Embassy Suites. However we have stayed several times at other Embassy Suites and loved them! So all Embassy Suites are not created equally! This one, has gone to the dogs!
