“A piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

Standing tall in the middle of all the modern buildings was a beautiful work of art. We were actually in the area for dinner and stopped to take pictures. The granite columns are spectacular!

“Love the Stars where Sherman's Cannon hit Capitol!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

We had family visiting from IN and wanted to show off our beautiful Capitol grounds. They were amazed with all the beautiful statues, memorials and beautiful landscaping. They were especially impressed with the stars located on the outside that mark areas where Sherman's cannon balls struck. Such an awesome part of our history. The grounds are just gorgeous and the weather was nice for a stroll around the area. A free place to visit with lots of history.

“Genuine piece of history!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Guide - who didn't have to do anything late in the afternoon - showed the 10- minute video to a few of our who straggled in late, and then another tour guide was doing a late tour for a group. Bought a few things in gift shop which were lovely, and the place itself is just gorgeous and full of interesting stories! Don't miss it! A gem.

“Go inside, even if you don't take the tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

Take the guided tour of the interior if you can, but go inside even if you don’t. The visitor door is near ground level on the east side of the building. After passing through the security check you’re welcome to use the restrooms, check out the beautifully columned lobby, browse the little gift shop -- and of course, cool off on broiling hot afternoons (typical summer weather for “Famously Hot” Columbia). Insider’s tip: if you are truly desperate for air conditioned relief, stand on the air conditioning vent in the floor of the gift shop.

When planning a visit, bear in mind that the State House is inundated with student groups on weekdays during the school year.

“Can feel the history!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Too many statues and stories too list. My favorite are the bronze stars, which indicate where cannon balls hit the building from Mr. Sherman's army. Must see!
