If you have a car, this attractive hotel with very nice pool and outdoor area serves as a wonderful place to stay while experiencing Charleston, SC. Located on the "river" side of downtown, it has easy access to both downtown and nearby attractions. As a family, we enjoyed the swimming and whirlpool in a nice palmetto tree lined setting. The lobby and exercise room are nice as well. While we were there, they seemed to be expanding the parking for the conference facilities, which should be done by now. The rooms were very nice and updated. An outdoor bar was located on a balcony overlooking the water.

We got this room for $100 per night through Priceline.com. I hate to pay more than $100 for a room but you never know what you're getting. This was so nice. The restaurant/bar area was pleasant and there was a very nice area outside to sit around and chat or have cocktails. The staff was efficient and very nice. The room was very nice and we had a view of the water. We'd definitely stay there again.

Downside? There isn't one. From the moment I stepped into the beautiful foyer to the moment I left- I was in heaven. Concierge and reception could not be more welcoming and helpful. All the rooms are absolutely beautiful - been to much more elite and expensive hotels which can't begin to compare with this hotel. They have an enchanting palm lined courtyard where one can simply relax, meet friends or/and drink the coffee (et al) acquired through sliding glass doors . The swimming pool is lovely, and each time you move - fresh towels are put in place. The view from the terrace bar on the third floor is magical and the whole hotel is clean and immaculate. The restaurant is intimate and friendly and the food is second to none. The hotel is about a mile from the centre of Charleston but there is transport provided by the hotel for six dollars a day and the drivers are knowledgable and nothing is too much trouble. I stayed here in 2007, cos I had been ill and needed a rest, and I have been back each year since. I have travelled the world - but this is without doubt my favourite hotel and I do plan to go back next year. It is perfect.

I am so upset with this hotel. My dad had to come to Charleston to have a heart surgery. We stayed at this Marriott during his Pre-op and it was just wonderful! When we got there the week of the surgery, it did not even seem like the same place. Our room was infested with ANTS!!!! I mean BIG ANTS, not only that, the room that we were in pratically sat on top of the hotel's generator. I brought this to the attention of the Rep at the desk and all she said was I'm sorry! I didnt go off in a rage but I was very diappointed. I told the reservation specialist at MUSC and she said that she would handle it. She tried calling the Marriott and so did I to see what they were going to do about it and every time that I called I got a call center that is not even in the state of South Carolina. It was bad enough that the trip was for a surgery that already had us on edge, We just wanted to stay at a hotel that made us feel relaxed and comfortable during a very difficult time , that's very hard to do when ANTS are biting you and all you hear when you sleep is a GENERATOR!!!!! I was very disappointed!!!!!
