“over priced!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

I was very disappointed with this hotel. They charge extra for things that other cheaper hotels give for free. $$$ for wifi, $$$ for breakfast. There isn't a tv channel list in the room ( You have to go to the front desk to get one ). The room doors have heavy return springs that make them slam shut and the walls shake. The windows are cloudy. Decor is dated and they charge way too much!!!!

Room Tip: stay at another hotel

We appreciate your honest feedback about your experience at our hotel...I'm sorry you were disappointed. You will find most full-service branded hotels do not offer free breakfast or Wifi. As a full-service hotel, we operate a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch & dinner.
We do offer packages that include breakfast and wifi.
Thank you for your opinions and hope you will give us another opportunity in the future.

The lobby and public spaces were spacious and comfortable. The room was a letdown...very small bathroom, peeling popcorn on the ceiling. This property needs updated and renovated. The concierge lounge was quite nice, with balconies to sit and enjoy a dessert or drink. It's off the beaten path, if we head back to Charleston we'll stay nearer the historic district

Green Features: Although they post notices about reusing towels, we hung ours to reuse them but housekeeping replaced them anyway (typical at Marriotts, perhaps housekeeping didn't get the memo?)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience. I will review our Towel Re-use program with our Housekeeping department... and ye, we are 1.5 miles from historic district, but we do offer a shuttle to downtown and and we also price ourselves accordingly - below hotels in the historic district (plus we offer free parking as well).

Thank you for your business and hope you will give us another try in future visits.

A quick trip to Charleston are the end of our spring break/college tours. The front desk staff are extremely nice and helpful. We didn't think we'd make it due to traffic and they canceled our reservation, then a 1/2 hour later rebooked us gladly. Lobby stunning. Upstairs Hallways really dirty, needed serious vacuuming. Room was small but had great view of ballpark with game in session and the Citadel. It was freezing so we didn't get to see rooftop bar or pool. Had good meal in restaurant. Biggest complaint are the doors. They should have spared some of the extravagant lobby decor on soundproofing the doors to rooms.. Doors slamming all night. Concierge lounge was nice.

Hotel is convenient to get to and has shuttle for 6$ per person so you don't have to pay for cabs. Free breakfast was really good. Hotel decor is tired and dated. Our room had moisture issues with the windows covered in condensation that ran onto the carpet and thus carpet was damp and musty/moldy looking near the windows. The rooms were a good size and had everything you needed. But I can't imagine how it would be in summer when air-conditioning runs non-stop and the condensation gets worse. Needs some work.

Thank you for your comments...we do appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions. We always appreciate the great comments and implement corrective measures from the below average comments.
I apologize for the condensation issue in your room...we do have a great renovation plan for our property that will address the issues. We are slated to begin this summer and plan encompasses all areas of hotel, lobby, restaurant and meeting space.
I hope you will give us another opportunity in the future for your business.
Thank you

We were given a room with 2 queens instead of the king bed in a room that had a bad smell. We asked to move to a king room and were accommodated immediately. This room also smelled of something like mold with heavy perfume. Unfortunately, we checked in very late and it was too late to check out and find another hotel. Before going to bed, I went down to the business center and read reviews of the hotel. Well, I wasn't the first to complain about the smell. The interior of the hotel was really in need of a remodel. It needed painting also. We checked out the next morning and checked into the Hampton Inn in Charleston. What a nice hotel. It was very clean

I apologize for the issue with your guestroom...I hope we made amends with you as customer at check-out. We always strive to make sure our customers are satisfied no matter what the issue was...
We do have a very extensive renovation of the hotel planned, beginning in the summer of 2014...I hope you will give us another opportunity for your business in the future.

Recently stayed here for a conference. Besides being typical for Marriott (clean, comfortable, etc.) we had an unexpected bonus of being on one of the higher floors overlooking the Citadel
campus and the Riverdogs baseball stadium. After the game, we were able to enjoy the fireworks
display for free from our window. Loved that! The food provided for the conference was very good. I especially appreciated the fried green tomatoes with the scrambled eggs and sausage on English muffins! The pizza was disappointing but hey, how can you serve that many people fresh hot pizza at one time. The salad made up for it. Easy parking was a real gift for being in Charleston. You are not near the historic area, but my husband walked to Marion Square to the
farmer's market on Saturday and really enjoyed it. You are also in walking distance to the Citadel
and the marina other delightful places that Charleston has to offer.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our hotel. Yes, we are 5 minutes outside the "historic district", but we do provide free parking for guests (unlike historic district hotels) and we provide hotel shuttle service down to the historic district....and yes, we have an excellent culinary team in the hotel if you decide to stay in for a meal.
Thank you for your comments and hope to see you again in the future.

My wife and I stayed here during a mid week visit. There was a lot of business people here which makes sense since they are 4 miles or more from the Historic District. We checked in and got a King room on the 10th floor overlooking the city . We had a great view looking out , but when you look down you can count all the ac units on the roof below ( having big numbers written on them must help somehow) Our stay was comfortable and pleasant and really quiet. The restaurant was really good and the prices aren't bad for a 5 star hotel .
Now for the BAD NEWS ;
INTERNET WIFI $6 - $9
TV CHANNEL SELECTION AVG 6 CHANNELS
ALL EXTERIOR ROOM DOORS NEED PAINTING
BATHROOMS and SHOWER AREAS...DISAPPOINTING
AC / HEAT UNITS ..POOR CONTROLS
For the price paid these areas need improving.
We did enjoy the rooftop lounge ( don't stay on 3rd floor )and all the staff from front end to the restaurant , housekeeping were friendly and helpful. We plan on another trip to Charleston and would consider this hotel again . We only hope they upgrade some of the aforementioned amenities.
