“very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Major renovation was done since last time I was here, granted location is not prime but there is a shuttle for going downtown, you are within 5-10 minutes of James Island and the hotel is right on the Ashley RIver, right by the Charleston Riverdogs stadium and you can walk to the Citadel and good for anybody who has a family member at MUSC. They are in the process of doing a major renovation to the swimming pool. I like what they have done to the bathrooms, taking out tubs and replacing with full showers and 2 showerheads. The conference rooms are in a different area, so you won't get noise from parties and to get free wi-fi go into the business center, where you can also print boarding passes.

Room Tip: corner room in the back where view of Ravenel bridge, river view and the Citadel.

“Pretty standard - not a normal Marriot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

The staff here is really great. The rooms not so much. Got this on a hotwire "deal" that wasn't that far off from the normal travel site price. If i'd paid anymore than $125/night I would have been upset. It appears to be an older hotel that was recently renovated. Their was MOLD in the bathroom in multiple spots and I had to be asked for my room to be revacuumed after arriving and finding what looked like saw dust basically everywhere. Rooms are a little smaller, bathrooms are TINY. You have to pay for wifi which I though was pretty tacky for "4 star" hotel. This place is more like a 4 star lobby with 3 star rooms. Lots of conferences and business travelers keep the parking lots full. Room was pretty quiet. No continental breakfast either. The location really isn't that bad. Quick access in and out of the city which is something the actual downtown hotels can't offer. But you it is about a 2.5 mile drive to get to the real downtown. I was their 6 days and saw the same front desk people every day! That's a little ridiculous to be working them that much. Hire some more people already and fire your housekeeping manager.

Room Tip: Higher floors facing west have the best views

“Nothing special”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here during my wides conference for a week. Not close to anything except a baseball park which we enjoyed. Had to take triply everywhere. Pool was not heated and rooms were ok. Nothing to write home about. I think its mostly used for conferences.

“Screwed over by hotwier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

The hotel itself was so so, bed was comfy, shower was clean but.... Nothing 4here star about it. Wifi not free and no free breakfast either, Difficult location, nothing around, toofar outside of downtown, "the hood" is about a block away, hotwire says its within downtown but it is actually more than 2 andu 1/2 miles away and across a major highway. If you are going to the Cidadel its great becuase its right next door, oh and if you need a cop... thats next door too.

Hotwire refused to move us... wont be usimg them again for a while.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Stayed at this hotel because hotels downtown were sold out and way overpriced. Was pleasantly surprised!!! The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. The room was very nice and up to date. What I loved most was the rooftop lounge and the beautiful courtyard. After spending a busy day site seeing and shopping it was a pleasure to come back to the hotel and enjoy a drink at the rooftop bar and relax near one of the fire pits.
