“Great family hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Beautiful hotel with all the historic charm, but close enough to make walking the city perfect, all the way down to the battery!
Our children love the park right out the side door to play soccer, after swimming. Staff is always accommodating, and gracious .

Room Tip: we had a room with a full window, added lots of light.

Worth the money for a special occasion. Package included a dozen roses, bottle of champagne, room with Jacuzzi tub, free valet parking, late check out, and we also received a free horse drawn carriage ride. Not sure if it was also part of the package or was added because i mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary? Either way it was a nice surprise =) Beautiful hotel and location. Free breakfast is awesome, made to order omelets along with everything else you would expect. Staff is very pleasant and quick to answer/do what you need.

Room Tip: rooms on bottom floor west side are close to street, can be noisy

After checking in, there was a slight glitch in the lock on our door. The staff quickly made other arrangements for us and then went above and beyond the call of duty to make certain we enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel was beautiful--the whole staff were extremely helpful providing anything we asked for. Valet Parking was great, having the car ready in minutes and the valets were excellent with directions, points of interest and restaurants. Location was perfect, able to walk almost everywhere in downtown. Would recommend this Embassy Suites to anyone traveling to the Charleston area.

I recently spent 5 nights at this hotel and really enjoyed my stay. I was in town to go to golf school for 3 days and then had some extra time to enjoy the area. Overall my stay was really great. I had a room on the 4th floor facing Marion Square as this was recommended by other TA's. The room was large, clean and really quiet considering I was facing Fashion Week tents right out my window. The breakfasts were very good, but crowded anytime after 9am as others have indicated. Happy hour was also well attended...they could get some additional wines...not just chardonnay and merlot, but they were free!

My biggest complaint was with the fitness center. A hotel of this size which seemed to cater to a number of business people really should have more than 1 treadmill and 1 elliptical. I tried multiple times to get on the equipment, but found it always in use...this was frustrating to me...and so if anyone heard someone pounding up and down the stairs and running laps in the hallways that was me!

I would absolutely stay at this hotel again. It was safe, centrally located and the staff was really friendly. Thanks for a great stay!

BTW...2 great restaurants, Coast and Pane e Vino are within 1 block of the hotel. Very convenient!

We stayed here for several nights and we had a blast! I had mentioned in our reservation that we were there for our 24th wedding anniversary. Well, imagine my surprise!! We got to our room and there were 2 bottles of coke, 2 bottles of water and a bottle of wine sitting on the table waiting for us. Yes, they included the wine glasses too! Being a Hhonors gold member you get the water and coke for free anyway. Like all Embassy suites hotel, all their rooms are suites. However, being the old location of the Citadel, the building is old but yet interesting and full of history.
Their breakfast is made to order or buffet style. My only complain is their orange juice, it's not real orange juice but hey! Can't complain when they are complimentary.
You have two choices of parking. One is valet parking for $20 a night is self park for $14 a night. If you go during the weekend, get the valet parking. It's not worth the hassle since parking is so limited. I highly recommend this hotel. Location is awesome convenient to everything around town. They have excellent customer service especially their front desk!

My husband and I stayed for our 1 year Anniversary. We had a wonderful corner room with a sitting area, a bedroom with a king sized bed, an upgraded bathroom, and an oversized soaking tub. The configuration of the room was a little strange with the tub over in a seperate corner of the bedroom away from the bathroom, but it wasn't a big deal.

The breakfast is included and it is one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had. Of course there were eggs and breakfast meats, as well as some good ole southern grits!

The history of the hotel is wonderful, used to be the original Citadel. This gives is a unique layout and it feels like a boutique hotel with a big name brand behind it.

Without a doubt the best part of this hotel was the location. It is right off of Marion Square and for relatively fit people it is easily within walking distance to the King Street shopping area, the market, and many popular downtown restaurants and attractions. We spent the entire afternoon and evening ambling around town.

This is a great place to stay in Charleston that has a boutique feel, luxury accomadations and an awesome location
