“Christmas in Charleston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Embassy Suites Downtown Charleston was a great hotel. My family really enjoyed the history present in and around the hotel. Wonderful location for the downtown experience. Would stay their again. Good location for an indoor event. You can park and enjoy without moving your car. Manager Reception was Awesome!!!!

Room Tip: Corner Suites are larger. Beds not so firm, but comfortable.

We arrived here yesterday. Very disappointing and expensive for an Embassy Suites.
1) Structurally - the room is old with only one window. There is massive banging (from a pipe) that shakes the entire room. My parents got a room in the mezzanine floor and it had NO windows.
2) The carpet is dirty and there is (black?) mold above the shower.
3) Double beds are small.
4) Very dark and dingy
5) Fitness center? How about Fitness box? One treadmill and one elliptical. Very disappointing.
I'm sure there is better places to stay for the money around here. Ugh! Get me out of here!

Right in heart of historic district. Right across from wonderful museum. You can walk to all the great restaurants. Good rooms with brick walls Great free breakfasts. Good value. Have stayed in Prather places like Hampton Inn nearby and that is not near as good

The property is historic, but this also means the rooms are small and narrow. The furnishings are pretty plain and not particularly charming. There is a complimentary cocktail hour and a complimentary breakfast. Expect long lines for both. The breakfast line was close to 20 minutes and we carried breakfast back to our room because there was nowhere to sit. I specifically stayed here because I knew there would be a fitness center and the other more charming inns nearby, didn't have one. However, the fitness center here is pretty miserable. It's in a detached building from the hotel and has limited equipment. Most Hampton Inns have better fitness centers. I didn’t find the location that great. It was about a half mile walk to most of the places we wanted to go. It was an easy, safe walk but it seemed as if there were better options closer to the sites.

Great complementary breakfast. Rooms are a bit smaller than most Embassy Suites and the dining area for breakfast is not in the atrium so seating is limited. Very walkable location and convenient to historic district. I would stay here again.

Excellent breakfast included. The hotel was the original Citadel, so it was cool and interesting to stay here. That being said, the room was pretty small and felt like its best days were behind it. Not your typical Embassy Suites, but if you're into architecture and an experience, worth a one-night stay. The location was superb and we walked to everything!
