“Good value but not great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

I stayed at this hotel over Easter weekend on a fly-solo trip. I fully agree with the other reviews that this hotel offers great value for the money. The room is large and clean. The breakfast is fantastic! There are brand name yogurts, fresh fruits, pancakes and southern comfort foods everyday. However, the location is so great for me. It's a little far from downtown where all the attractions and restaurants are. Yes. There is a free shuttle stop just in front of the hotel. But it only comes every half hour. Worst part is that the service stops at 8:30 pm on weekdays and at 6:30 pm on Sundays. Unless you don't mind taking a cab ($10-$12), you can't really enjoy the great nightlife that downtown Charleston has to offer. I walked back to the hotel from downtown a couple of times and it took me 30-40 minutes not 20 minutes as other reviewers indicated (and I'm a jogger.) It is quite a long walk! And some areas get schetky at night but I don't recommend it.

Net Net, if you are family with kids or those who just want to come back to the hotel after an early dinner and have a good hearty breakfast every morning, this is a good hotel for you. If you are a young couple or solo traveler who wants to experience the great restaurants and bars in Charleston, you are way better off staying at a downtown hotel. There are plenty of choices! Hope this helps.

Room Tip: Here are my favourite restaurants in Charleston (all of which are closer to the downtown area not th...

The rooms are nice and spacious! There is a trolley stop just steps away from the hotel to take you further into downtown Charleston and its free!! Staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice comfortable room for an older hotel. Stayed here 2 nights while visiting Charleston. They offer a good Continential/Hot breakfast, but don't go down to breakfast late, a lot of people stay there. We enjoyed scrambled eggs & sausage patties 1 day, and sausage gravy the next, they also have bagels, toast, cereals, and make your own waffles. We would stay there again.

The room was fine for an older hotel. Good location, not far from downtown. Only problem was breakfast - served until 10:00 a.m. Arrived at 9:30 to find all hot items unavailable - no scrambled eggs, no boiled eggs, no sausage. Attendant kept saying they were busy earlier - heard guests respond that it was busy now. Don't advertise a full breakfast if you can't deliver. Would stay there again for the price.

Room was comfortable, breakfast was good, can't find any fault.

Located right by the free shuttle bus stop which takes you into town without having to worry about parking.

Excellent budget choice hotel for downtown Charleston. Free parking. Adjacent to free shuttle stop. Lovely walk into town if one prefers. Easy walk/access to Ashley Marina and City Marina.
Large rooms, terrific business center, good breakfast. Great staff.

This review is based on the price paid for a very reasonable senior rate!

I was a bit worried by the reviews, but the stay was positive, overall. The breakfast was varied and tasty, beds comfortable, staff friendly. Negatives: the doors to the rooms needed to be replaced; they looked very old and sound carried through from the hallway. Front desk was understaffed although they were obviously working as efficiently as they could.

It's one of the cheaper hotels in Charleston, and while I wasn't exactly blown away, I would stay there again because of the price.
