“Excellent choice while in Charleston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

Beautiful hotel in Charleston!! My daughter found this by searching the internet and checking the reviews. We stayed in a junior suite which was roomy and comfortable. The staff are well versed in the area, friendly, and the hotel offers many amenities such as fresh baked cookies and lemonade/water/coffee throughout the day, there is a happy hour of wine and cheese from 5-6, and breakfast. We fell in love with Charleston and will stay at the Ansonborough Inn on our next visit.

When we visit historic cities, we like to take in as much charm as possible. The Inn delivered! Visiting for my husband's birthday, the staff surprised us with an upgrade. WHAT AN UPGRADE. Our "room" was a one bedroom suite larger than my apartment in college.

We were first impressed with the lobby. The exposed beams are breathtaking. Lovely local art is beautifully framed and on virtually every wall. Furnishings and accessories are eclectic and amusing. And, as with an older building, lots of nooks and crannies to explore, including a lovely rooftop deck for incredible views of the city!

The desk staff was cheerful upon our check in. Any time we had a questions, they were more than gracious and helpful. The Inn is located near the best dining, shopping and nightlife in town. We walked to Slight North of Broad (SNOB) for dinner. See our review, it's amazing!

The wine and cheese happy hour was delicious! We indulged in warm brie and spinach dip! The happy hour was held in the same room as breakfast. A lovely, lovely room unlike the complimentary breakfast rooms found at chain hotels. I particularly loved the dozens of painted portraits of dogs displayed on the entry wall. Breakfast included so much variety including french toast sticks, bagels, muffins, yogurt, fresh fruit and more. Coffee was delish and the tea was from a local plantation.

We will definitely return on our next trip to Charleston! Thanks, Ansonborough Inn, for helping me spoil my husband rotten!

Room Tip: Call. The street side rooms are reportedly a tad noisy. Get on 2nd or 3rd floor.

Ansonborough Inn is where we stayed for our 26th Anniversary trip. Beautifully decorated and great location. We parked our car and walked everywhere the entire trip. Service was excellent. I didn't want to leave.

We chose to stay at the Ansonborough Inn due to its location and style. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the City Market, the waterfront, and basically anywhere you'd want to go downtown. The industrial-meets-Edwardian styling was right up our alley, and the two-story wood ceiling and large windows in our huge room was really cool. The front desk staff were also extremely friendly and helpful during our actual stay. All that being said (and all that being why we gave a 3-star rather than a lower rating), the room was ridiculously noisy. As in, even with pillows over our ears we were repeatedly woken up by the constant stream of large vehicles and motorcycles on East Bay Street, which is apparently one of the busiest thoroughfares in downtown Charleston. Those of us unfamiliar with Charleston would have absolutely no idea what a room "facing East Bay" really meant (we thought, a bay! Yay! Um, no.). We did not sleep but for a few minutes at a time the entire night due to the insane noise. In case you're wondering, we have traveled the world and are used to noisy hotel rooms... but this was over the top noisy, especially for the rate. In addition, although checkout time is at noon and we had the do-not-disturb sign on the room door, our keys were turned off by 9am on our checkout day, and housekeeping completely disregarded our privacy and opened the door on us at 9:30am. We expressed our frustration at the front desk, where the attendant was responsive but acted like she heard the comments about the noise all the time. She also said she would have the manager call us as soon as possible to address the invasion of our privacy and overall inconvenience (and exhaustion). We finally called the hotel four days later after hearing nothing, and only because of that call received $75 off our overall room cost. So ultimately they somewhat "made it right", but we are unlikely to stay there again.

Room Tip: Keep away from any room that faces or is anywhere near East Bay Street.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the time you spent with us at the Ansonborough Inn. As I expressed to you over the phone, I was dismayed to hear that you did not have the wonderful experience that we strive to provide to all of our guests.
It was very troubling to me to learn that there was a communication problem within the staff that led to someone here thinking that you had checked out. I can assure you that I have taken steps to ensure that this does not happen again.
Thank you again for taking the time to write this review. In the event that you do decide to give us a second chance, please contact me personally, as I would love to have the opportunity to help you select a quieter room in which you will be much happier.

We chose the Ansonborough Inn based on price, but we came to value so many more of its attributes. Easy walking distance to restaurants and historic downtown, friendly staff, workout room (although small, usually empty), nearby grocery, parking lot just across the street and the view from the rooftop patio was beautiful. The layout of our room was a bit unusual; dresser in the dining area, but that's an easy adjustment to make, especially since the room itself was so spacious. We hope to return to Charleston and this is where we'll stay when we do.
By the way, we didn't experience any of the noise problems that others have mentioned.

This is our "go to" place and we have never been disappointed. Starting with the front desk
the staff was great, helpful, and informative. Was told they had just put new mattresses in and I have never slept better, also the hotel is very quiet. Walking distance to all great restaurants and shopping. We won't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Have used several different rooms due to family circumstances and all rooms are comfortable.

Had the pleasure of staying at the Ansonborough Inn at the recommendation of a friend and they weren't wrong. Awesome room, awesome staff, great breakfast and perfect location. Close walking distance to downtown and some great restaurants. Our room was on the first floor which a number of people have said were noisy but ours, room 106, was very quiet. Maybe we were lucky but the Inn seemed crowded based on the parking lot and activity but we didn't experience any excessive noise.

If you get the chance, take advantage of the wine & cheese every evening along with the roof top deck. Just make sure you are prepared to guard your food from the seagulls. :) Will definitely stay here again if we get the chance.
