“Awesome experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

First trip to Charleston, along with my wife and my sister and her husband. All of us raved about the Ansonborough Inn and when (not "if") we return, we will all choose this hotel. It was so beautiful with the wood beams and woodwork with the oil paintings everywhere.
The rooms were immense and the beds and pillows extremely comfortable., The staff could not have been more friendly (especially Susie, the night front desk lady) or helpful with recommendations to assist us newbies.
Wine and cheese reception, and a very nice warm continental breakfast were included. The coctails up on the rooftop terrace overlooking the harbor and historic downtown was the icing on the cake. If all inns and hotels were half as nice as this one, travel would be a wonderful experience.

Although this is a lovely place to stay, it was very difficult to sleep and enjoy the room when we could hear others talking and TV noise in the room next to us.
The bed wasn't very comfortable either and their was a strange musty smell when we walked in our room.
While we were trying to sleep, we could here other's watching TV, and also heard alarms going off in other rooms. Your close to the dock where the cruise ship comes in, so you will hear the loud horn around 5am assuming they will be docking that day.
If we didn't have to sleep at this INN the overall atmosphere is very enjoyable.
They have a beautiful roof top deck and very nice eating area.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. It is great to know that you found so many aspects of your time with us enjoyable! This is the first time I have heard that the cruise ship horn was troublesome to any of our guests, but that is clearly beyond our control. I wasn't even aware that they sounded it as they arrived into port! It is great to know that you found the other aspects of your time with us to be pleasant and lovely! Thanks again for the TripAdvisor Review.

stayed here for 4 nights preceding a cycle tour of charleston, beaufort and savannah..the location was perfect..within the historic district..but quiet..across the street from a huge market..walking distance to many restaurants and shops..the rooms are well appointed and varied and there is a wonderful deck on the top of the 3 story build with views of the water..the staff was helpful and friendly..breakfast and wine and cheese plus snacks and fresh baked cookies...included..

Room Tip: we stayed in a jr suite on the first floor..my only criticism would be that is didn't have much...

Rooms are very open, large and have huge solid wood beams on the ceiling. Our room had about a 30 foot ceiling and a clean, nice bathroom.

The place has lots of character, nice rooftop lounge area, free parking was included and it was very close. Bed was comfortable and having a couch, plus counter in room with sink, micro and fridge, are nice added touches. It was a good deal/value - we liked it better than most places we have stayed in Charleston, for the money. Breakfast was basic.

Although the hotel is a bit dark and has more of an old oil paintings and persian rug vibe - they are everywhere - the room was very open and bright...too bright by the way. Room 215 had a warehouse light that is directly where the window shutters are. It kept the room light all night. We tried to turn shutter both directions and extra pillows were not tall enough to block it. With a curtain added, it would be just fine.

We were surprised with such high ceilings though, that you can hear people above you, walking, flushing and talking through the vents. We did not hear outside noise, which was nice and after 11pm the other noise stopped.

It is off the beaten path, a short walk to things to do on Bay, King, Meeting St's. A nice walk along the waterway and down to the battery is just a mile with great scenery along the way.

We will definitely look to stay again, just select an alternate room location.

We have stayed at the Ansonborough Inn 3 times now and we love it! The inn is a great value for the price with a great breakfast and wine & cheese evening social. We really feel at home here as several of the staff remember us from past visits. The rooms are recently remodeled & are quite large with very elegant decor. Many other hotels are priced higher than Ansonborough, and are no where near as nice as Ansonborough. Check their website or call for awesome packages!!

Additionally, this inn has on site parking which can be difficult to find in the historic district. Great added value to stay here!

Great location, rates, room and amenities. Added bonuses: Nice continental breakfast and wine & cheese happy hour. Take your coffee or your wine up to the lovely rooftop deck for city & harbor views. Employees were all very nice and helpful.

We booked on a whim. The rates were unbeatable. Our room was upgraded upon check in! Nice surprise. Gorgeous renovation. Great location. Couldn't have been happier with everything we have encountered at the Ansonborough inn.
