“Wonderful Fish & Oysters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

This was one of our best dinners in Charleston. The place was mobbed and noisy with modern decor and a genuinely fun atmosphere. The staff is friendly and the service was very good. My wife started with peel-and-eat shrimp; a generous portion that was perfectly cooked. She followed this with excellent sautéed scallops served with fresh asparagus and red rice. I had a dozen oysters (only $1.00 each) from the Gulf, that were perfect. I followed this with an excellent pan-fried grouper. We shared (and fought over) a slice of excellent coconut cream pie. I would not hesitate to go back.

“It's a Pearl!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

I have been here twice in the last two months; once on a family trip and recently on a business trip. The mixed seafood grill was incredibly good, and the oyster sample plate was top notch. The branzino is fantastic. The only detractions were that the restaurant and attached bar can be very loud at times and they seem to be a little short on wait staff at times.

“Happy Hour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

This place has the best happy hour! I would defiantly recommend getting your set early because it fills up by 5pm. Wonderful oysters, fresh fish/seafood, and great staff. The drink specials are amazing. Wish I would have found this place sooner. The dinner specials were also excellent.

“Fun Place, Awesome Oysters!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

While visiting the area, we went to Pearlz on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Charleston. It exceeded even her glowing opinion. It is attractively decorated and the lighting is well-balanced. Acoustics are a bit lively as is the crowd, but not unpleasantly so. There are three distinct seating areas: bar, dining and "communal." It was very busy when we arrived so rather than wait we elected "communal" and were pleasantly surprised. You don't get to choose with whom you sit, but we found the local people to be extraordinarily friendly and it actually added to the fun. Starting with oysters is a good idea in an oyster bar and these were the best I had ever eaten. All of the food in fact was excellent. Being a New England boy, I love lobster rolls and took a chance that our southern bretheren had the recipe figured out. It too was the best ever with huge chinks of perfectly cooked lobster meat. Their draft beer selection was limited but they had some excellent craft beers in bottles and did not overcharge for them. Prices overall were very reasonable considering the high quality. Service was friendly and efficient. This is not the place for a romantic night out, but is great fun for lunch or an informal dinner with friends. Next time I am in Charleston, I will definitely go to Pearlz again!

“Happy Hour at Pearlz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

We heard from a local resident, that they often take advantage of the many Happy Hour restaurants, that often have reduced price menus... so we decided to have a late lunch this way.
We chose Pearlz due to the oysters, and it was just great.
My husband had a dozen, very large oysters for about $9. Truly have never seen some that large. And he loved the cocktail sauce... the server reports they make their own sauce.
I had a cup of Gumbo and an order of Corn Fritters.. and could not finish it all. The gumbo was thick and brown and had just enough "kick"... and the fritters.. 6 of them, fresh, not greasy... delicious. Also the drinks, including house wines, beer, and cocktails all reduced. $5 for a good sized martini.
The added bonus is that we sat at the bar where the oysters were being shucked.. they must have gone through at least 200 while we were there... a show unto itself.
We highly recommend Pearlz.
