“Pretentious for the sake of being pretentious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

High cotton is a nice restaurant but I was disappointed in the food. I ordered the swordfish. It was under cooked. It was also the tiniest piece of swordfish I've ever gotten. My husband ordered the NY strip, medium. It was medium on one end and rare on the other. All the dishes come with weird and fairly undesirable sides. I feel like this place is trying too hard and not doing a great job, especially for the money. Also, for the price you would think they could clean their blinds, which were coated with dust as well as sweep the dead flies out of the window sills.

“Great food and great service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Our waiter Corey was perfect with his suggestions and service. Lively place with focus on making sure your dining experience is special. I had the Halibut with heirloom tomatoes. Delightful and cooked perfectly. My husband had the Seafood Broil and he enjoyed every bite. Unusual menu choices which made it hard to choose. All looked good. A bit pricey, my glass of wine was $15.00, but we had fun and we were on vacation, so what the heck! If you haven't been, you should have a meal at High Cotton.

“Good food and great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We had a great experience at High Cotton. We came here last July for the first time and agreed that on our next trip to Charleston that we would go back to High Cotton again. They did not disappointment. I called about three weeks in advance and asked if it would be possible to get one of the three booths. We were lucky enough to get seated there the previous year and it offers a great view across and restaurant and out into the street. When we arrived and asked for the table Amanda who had taken the reservation request came through for us. She had in fact saved a booth. That might sound like a small thing but it is the little things that can make a difference. The fact that they cared enough to accommodate the request made us feel appreciated.
We had another couple join us for dinner. We lucked out and got a great waitress. Again something like that can make all of the difference in the dining experience. She was friendly and energetic. And she playfully gave each of us a hard time on one matter or another throughout the evening. She was a happy person and you could tell that she genuinely enjoyed the interaction with the customers. Again you don’t always get that when you go out to eat.
All four of us ordered different items off of the menu yet each of us was extremely happy with the food. I got the filet and it was well cooked with good flavor.
We never had to wait on drink refills, the food was served in a timely manner, and we had a waitress who was in a great mood. You can’t ask for much more than that. On our next trip back to Charleston we will be certain to make another stop here at High Cotton.

“Perfect Charleston Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We ate here last weekend for dinner and liked it so much that we came back for brunch. The food was top-notch with all of the Charleston favorites and the atmosphere was fun. They had a jazz band playing there during both of our visits. Our waiter was very attentive and had lots of advice on what to see and do in the area.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

My husband and I just had brunch at High Cotton on our weekend stay in Charleston. The food/drink, service and atmosphere was fantastic. The brunch menu had great choices with a southern flare. The grits were amazing. I am still dreaming about them! Bloody Mary's were fabulous. The live jazz band was a great treat during our Sunday morning brunch. Definitely go!
