Description: Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Let our professional, attentive, experienced and knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu and help select a wine that is a perfect pairing for food and budget.

“Attention to detail! This chef knows his stuff.”

The restaurant associated with Wentworth Mansion is GREAT! Very creative menu options like antelope or chicken breast stuffed with collards...beautiful presentation and delicious! Halibut seemed to be the chefs signature dish while we we're there... Gotta try it. Quail appetizer was unique and delicious. Organic salad so yummy. Shrimp and grits were very different with green and red peppers and marscarpone cheese!

“Very Good Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Very good bistro at the Wentworth mansion. Good ambiance in a warm muted dining room which was the former carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion. Attentive service though not obtrusive. Well informed servers. Enjoyed the flounder and sea bass for entrees, hearts of palm and quail for appetizers. Desserts were the high point of the meal, PEACHES N’ CREAM SOUFFLÉ and Peanut Butter “Pluff Mudd” very tasty. Well worth the visit when in Charleston

“Amazing Dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My fiance and I decided to dine at Circa 1886 to celebrate a new job and it was amazing. We are locals, so we dine downtown quite a bit, hitting multiple restaurants in all sorts of price points. We don't do fine dining often, but this was truly a treat. We made reservations at 7:15 so we could make it after work. The parking is free and ample (WHAT???) right across the street. We got there a little early and had some drinks at the bar. It was fairly small and intimate, perfect for the size of the restaurant. This is not a place to come just to drink, unlike many of the chic bars attached to some of the other top-notch restaurants downtown.

We were very torn on which entrees to order and we decided on the beef and I got the halibut. BOY, were we not disappointed. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked. It came with simple, but delicious mashed potatoes and a pimiento ketchup that was divine. My fish was steamed perfectly and served with a squash reduction and the entire dish came together so light and decadent.

We ordered the pluff mudd for dessert and it was the PERFECT ending to our meal. Overall the service was friendly and fast, the food was delicious, and it didn't quite break the bank. If you are coming to Charleston, or live nearby, do yourself a favor and spend an evening with the folks at Circa. You won't be disappointed.

“Treat yourself”

Excellent service, comfy atmosphere. The antelope is something everyone should try. Desserts are off the chart. The bar pours a stiff drink with a professional flair. We had a great time and plan to repeat the experience.

“Yummy! Desert was off the charts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013 via mobile

Start to finish, great meal. Had the antelope, highly recommend. Tons of flavor. Great ambiance.
Highlight was clearly the dessert. My wife and I spilt the peanut butter mudd fluff! If you like peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallow, and banana, order this, it won't disappoint. Great meal, ambiance, service. You'll be happy you went.
