“An interesting selection of Ales”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

In Charleston for the first time and in search of good local ales we visited the Southend Brewery. The beers were somewhat eclectic with the lighter brews being more flavoursome - the heavier beers had a slightly earthy aftertaste which may be down to the local water. The burgers were fine and the service friendly enough.

“not good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We were not impressed with the food here or the service. Our waiter put in the order for our free appetizer( the crab and artichoke dip) and we waited a LONG time. Eventually, our food came and we ended up taking our appetizer to go!!! Our waiter said he was sorry and said they were swamped and our appetizer request got "lost".

“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014 via mobile

We came here because we had a great experience a year ago. Sadly it is not was nothing like what we remembered. Where to begin: the beer flight was ok, not the best, not the worst beer. Drinkable. We had the ribs and pulled pork platter: came cold and dry. Not good. The Brie platter was actually very delicious but that leads me to the poor service. We felt rushed as our waitress cleared the table before we had finished. (She took our cheese!) It felt like she was trying to rush us out. Horrible experience.

“Wedding Reception and Welcome Party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We hosted our son's wedding reception, then welcome party for their destination wedding at Southend Brewery last weekend. We had a fantastic time. Jana Hodge and her staff did a great job for our dinner for 28, then welcome party for an additional 70 people. We had the parties on the 3rd floor. The food was great, the service was wonderful. We got so many compliments from our guests. As a destination wedding where everyone came from out of town, I couldn't have asked for a better place to meet and celebrate this wonderful occasion.

“Worst meal in Charleston. Just unfortunate.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Going to SB&S was a last resort choice because it was New Year's eve and we had passed on the reservation we made elsewhere after looking at their limited menu. We probably should have stayed there (Amen Street Raw Fish and Bar). Southend had seating and the food was considerably affordable. We figured it could not be too bad. It was. My husband's bar-b-cue ribs were spoiled. The pork tasted sour (like aged vinegar). The brisket was tough, dry and chewy. We had to send them back. My catfish was over-friend and was mostly batter. The mac and cheese was a notch above store-bought mac and cheese out of a box. The only edible item we ordered was the pizza which they apparently make fresh. Additionally, at 10:00pm the interior bar became a small disco with a DJ playing loud latin music (completely out of context with the city and the clientele) I am hispanic and I was turned off by the type of music that was selected for the NYE celebration. We left after begrudgingly paying for a horrible meal. It ruined our NYE dinner and evening plans. Brett, our server, did the best he could, but this restaurant has a lot of fixing to do. Tables close by looked just as unhappy as we were. People left uneaten food in a few tables within sight. Just unfortunate. I wish we had never walked in. Sorry.
