“Tell them upfront to go easy on the salt !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2009

We arrived quite early and were greeted very well by the staff . Oour server seemed to be quite knowledgeable and was very helpful with the menu an the wine list.

The room was better than most and we enjoyed the ambiance. .

Before we ordered, I had a local beer and my wife enjoyed a glass of white wine.

For dinner I had a special and my wife ordered the 'Steak Dianne". We ordered a bottle of red wine based on the server's suggestion.' I found my dinner to be a little on the salty side and after a few minutes my wife complained the mushrooms with her dish were so salty as to be inedible. She is a salt freak and I make constant comments concerning the amount of salt she consumes.

When the very attentive waiter asked the usual question about about the extent of our enjoyment of our dinners, we mentioned the salt and asked whether the locals enjoyed salty food. He told us that salty dishes were prefered by the locals and that if we preffered less salty dihes, we should inform our server to ask the kitchen to ' go light on the salt".

Our almost inedible meal was quite expesive but ruined by the heavy salt hand of the alleged chef,

As our comments to the server clearly identified us as visitors to his fine city he should have explained the salt situation before we ordered.

Other than the amount spent on overly salty food and the server's after the fact information, we enjoyed the restaurant!

“Great atmosphere, great service...just perfect.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2009

While in Charleston for our 3rd Anniversary, we went to Cypress. We had a great meal: Caesar salad for 2, and Chateaubriand for 2, plus a great bottle of Clos du Val. We enjoyed the private booth, and the great service. Very romantic and enjoyable. Plus it was still "fun" (not too stuffy and traditional). Cool atmosphere in the room.

“artistic food at a very high price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2009

I was very impressed with the food and service at Cypress. The chef is quite imaginative. However, be prepared to pay for his artistry. Our bill for two salads, two mid-priced entrees, a half bottle of wine and a shared dessert with 20% tip was $180. There is nothing "low country" about the menu. It is more high end international fusion. "low country grill" is VERY misleading.

“Impeccable Service and Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2009

Booth for two on the ground floor by the Wine Wall.

The friendly, professional service began with suggestions for appetizers and wine. The Almond-fried brie salad was outstanding and the crab cake was outstanding. The Steak Diane was a sizeable portion and perfectly prepared and the Charcuterie was all it was described to be. Our desserts were the Pecan Financier and the Banana Chocolate Chip Soufle. Both desserts failed to survive long at the table and the Soufle was airy, light yet very flavorful.... it was simply delicious.

We have dined at Cypress three times now and have not disappointed.

With all due respect to some recent, prior reviews here, yes, it has an atmosphere very different than that of a stuffy, linen table clothe establishment but it is far more than a eye catching trendy spot for drinks as the service is impeccable and local sourced food outstandingly prepared and presented well.

Need a reservation, very impressive wine bar . Very trendy, food was ok . I would go back for drinks, more than food.
