“Beautiful Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful but the menu is not for me. The only thing I could eat was the kale Caesar salad, which was delicious! It is too shell food orientated. We go in mostly to have drinks at the bar, but that's it. Wish the appetizers were a little more all around as the main section of the menu isn't for me, but would be nice to grab an appetizer before heading to a different restaurant for dinner.

“Same great experience, the second time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

Not too much actual cooking happens at The Ordinary. At least not for our group.

The setting is magic. It’s an old bank with a soaring ceiling and simply dressed floor to ceiling windows. The lighting is dim but you can see everything clearly. There’s a large beautiful bar to the right and the shucking station is in the back. Both times I’ve eaten there we have been seated in the mezzanine overlooking the beautiful marble tables. It’s a great vantage point. We ate a ton of oysters, clams, lobster cocktail and a couple other apps, notably the skate terrine. Disclosure - they may not have a single meat for a person not interested in the fish and seafood offerings as was the case the night we were there. We were in heaven though because everything was perfectly chilled and served with a variety of sauces. The lemongrass cocktail sauce has an obscene number of ingredients and they all pretty much stand out. The blood orange mignonette was the perfect accompaniment to the shell fish. Don’t ever walk away from the chance to end your meal with their rice pudding. It is sweet perfection, served with petite sections of tangerine, blood orange and pink grapefruit. Our server, Brittany was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient, just another in Michael Latta’s extraordinary stable.

“A Chance to Try New Things”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

Razor Clams, Wahoo Crudo, BBQ Shrimp - awesome Southern fare I just can't get at home (NH). Our server, Ben, was very helpful in pairing beer and wine with our dishes.

We will definitely be back!

“I'd Give it 5 Stars, But...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, located on upper King St. Let's tackle the few negatives first. One, it's in an old bank building and the noise level can be disconcerting at times, making it difficult for my wife and I to even hear each other over a cafe sized table. Two, there is absolutely no on street parking on one of the busiest streets in the city and with side streets that are restricted to local residential parking. The good news is they have a valet parking lot about a block away, but the bad news is you'd never know it unless you asked them (which we did while circling the restaurant helplessly), since it's not mentioned at all on their website. Notwithstanding all that, their menu is very seafood centric and the food was every bit as good as we'd heard it was. We shared a plate of Hawaiian rolls (they don't offer bread), which were quite good. She loved her two apps, the crudo and the oyster/beef tartare. I sampled the former and agree. They offer one special dinner each night and last night's was a Southern Fish Fry, right up my alley. Lightly fried bass, shrimp and oysters, accompanied by some black eye pea cold salad and another sweet and spicy cold accompaniment of some sort. Plus a really good home made tartar sauce. The meal came with an excellent green salad to start and one of the best rice puddings I've ever had, to finish. The service was also very good, there when we needed them but not at all intrusive. All in all, a very good dining experience and well worth the trouble getting there.

“Great atmosphere but disappointing meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014 via mobile

I love to try new places and when everyone heard we had reservation at the Ordinary they were effusive with praise. The space is really well designed - the converted bank is welcoming rather than cold and loud. The service was super and attentive. Only the food was a disappointment. We had the Sunday Fish Fry and it was nothing special given the price. Too much batter and over fried. The heirloom tomato salad which went with it was delicious. I would recommend trying something else as the fresh shellfish looked amazing.
