“Book Your Wedding Here!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We used the Inn at Middleton Place as a central location for our Wedding guests to enjoy a local Charleston experience. We had a block of over 20 rooms including the large Ashley River Room as a hospitality suite. Additionally, we rented the Syrup Shed for our Rehearsal Dinner, rented the Lodge for our after party, and took wedding photos near the lobby. Overall, our guests fully enjoyed everything about the Inn!

We stayed at The Inn at Middleton Place as part of an anniversary trip we took through the SE United States. The inn, and Middleton Place itself, were one of those unexpected finds that really makes a trip. We were excited to see the inn after running across the website and making reservations. However, we did not expect to have such a wonderful experience overall.

Our room was absolutely lovely, with an elegant simplicity that radiated warmth and comfort. We particularly enjoyed the architectural touches that set it apart from any other lodging of our trip. Notice how the curve is echoed in the ceiling in the bathroom, in the glass block window, and the arch under the stairs leading to the upper levels. And pull the pocket door out a bit to find the hidden glass, which adds, a bit of light across the mirror. We had requested a room with a river view and were on the second floor with a magnificent view across the Ashley River and marshes beyond. Again, notice how the architects hid the pool from spoiling the view across the river, even from this high angle. As we entered the room we found a very thoughtful gift and card from Abigail Martin, General Manager, as we had indicated our stay was part of our 30th anniversary trip. Thank you Abigail!

We met some very nice people, and enjoyed wine and hors d'oeuvres at the complimentary reception held in the Lodge Building our first evening there. Breakfast was at the Lake house, a short and pleasant walk from our building. Breakfast was excellent, light and satisfying. The Lake house staff, as everywhere on the property, were polite, helpful, and generally seemed concerned about the experience for their guests. Again, Ms. Martin should be applauded for this.

It is a lovely and easy walk through the woods and along the river from the inn to Middleton Place. We were anticipating spending a half day or so there. However, we became so engrossed in the history, the beauty, the guided tours, etc. that we ended up spending the whole day. We loved it. In the evening, we walked the lighted path again from the inn to the millpond for a spectacular night view with the moon peaking through the moss in the trees.

Overall, our experience at The Inn at Middleton Place was excellent. I’m sure we will return sometime. In the meantime, we are letting our friends know that this should be a destination considered for their future travels.

I think we paid around $145 a night and for that we got admission to the grounds ($56 value) , wine and cheese (sit outside overlooking the river) ($20 value?) and a really nice healthy breakfast buffet ($20 for two?) so the room comes out to around $50-60 a night when you consider how much the extras could cost.
I took pictures of the room for inspiration-it was like a tree house-plantation shutters on two sides almost from floor to ceiling, two chairs and a bed. No pictures, just beautiful simplicity. Really sad the fireplace was closed for the season.
The plantation is beautiful and we got to walk around off hours. We were not there long enough for horseback riding or kayaking but will return.

Room Tip: we didn't have a room consider riverview and it didn't matter.

WE had no idea this was such a beautiful setting or the history of the property. It was beautiful, we could have planned to just sty there an skip trips into Charleston some days if we had known what was available on the property. I highly recommend a visit and stay. I would return of in that area again.

Room Tip: al of the rooms are great but if you have mobility issues ask for one that is ground floor, otherwis...

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Middleton Place Inn. Although the rooms were a little moldy and the inn did not have tons of upgrades you might expect for a high-end resort, the inn has a beautiful setting and very helpful staff.

We had planned our first trip to Charleston and made reservations to stay at a hotel in one of the recommended historical areas of the city. A friend of mine stepped in and mentioned their stay at Middleton last year. When I saw the pictures and visited their website, I knew this was the place for us. We were so glad we made the change in location. The Inn is one of the most unique settings we have ever stayed at. It is a bit rustic, but that is what makes it so inviting and peaceful. To be surrounded by all the history of the plantation is so interesting. We took full advantage of the free access to the plantation and the various tours. We also enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts each morning in the Lake House....a wonderful room with floor to ceiling windows and a deck if you wish to dine outside. We rented bikes at the Lodge and road along the four different trails. We had a car so we drove into Charleston a couple of times and didn't mind the 25 minute commute. While we loved Charleston and spent as much time as we could there, it was so great to return to the tranquility of the Inn after a full day of activities in the city. We will definately stay at the Inn at Middleton place if we ever visit Charleston in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the Ashley River and ask for a renovated bathroom.

This facility is 26 years old and in need of some updating. The rooms are comfortable, however the shutters are wooden and several in our room were broken and most were out of the original tracks. The toilet was manufactured in 1984 and required two flushes to clear out just paper. It did seem somewhat stragne to see a sign hoping that we would reuse our towels and they were hanging over a toilet that required 10 gallons of water per use. Our bedside lamp was coming apart at the top and wires were exposed. We called one evening and were told it would be fixed the next day. It was untouched.

There is a free wine, cheese and Hors d'oeuvres setup between 5 and 7 each night - great amenity, however the white wine was not chilled and the stuffed mushroom caps were cold, even though they were on a hot plate. Probably just came out of the cooler.

The breakfast was great and the staff friendly. The location is perfect for a quiet stay and the Middleton Gardens are just fabulous.

We would stay again just to visit the gardens, but probably not for an extended stay.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor if you don't want stairs to climb.
