“Wish this place was still in business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Long overdue review. My wife and I stayed here when we first starting dating back in Fall 2007. Management was very hands off, but we're not the type that are in constant need of pampering. The place was very clean and well appointed. While i have recently found a few of the units for rent on VRBO, I can't seem to find the unit we stayed in. It was a one bedroom, first unit on the right when you get off the elevator if I remember correctly, and had a balcony with stairs that led down to the deck of the restaurant downstairs(I remember because they had a wedding reception or something out there while we stayed). Great place. Planning on booking one of the units off VRBO this year. I hope they are as well run as before.

Convenient walk to the Market in historic Charleston, SC. Colonial decor. 4 poster beds. Adequate space. Sumptuous breakfast buffet in the lobby. Very nice wine reception available each evening. It's one of the original inns in downtown Charleston. Fairly priced.

Everything about this place was beyond my expectations. The staff was most welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, up-to-date, and we loved the piazza where we could just sit and relax with their complimentary wine, cheese and hors' doeuvres in the late afternoons. Their bakery and hot breakfast goodies in the a.m. were fabulous and got our day started right. I am in a wheelchair and loved the fact that we were so centrally located to everything. We had a rental car and we were able to park in a lot right across the street from the hotel free of charge because of my disability sticker. We wheeled to some great restaurants such as Poogan's Porch, S.N.O.B., Sticky Fingers, and the like. We missed viewing the Citadel marching due to rain, but did manage to get to the Magnolia Plantation and the U.S.S. Yorktown. All in all, this was a fun getaway, and I would retirn to the Meeting Street Inn without a moment's hesitation.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor and we found it quiet enough for sleeping even though the A.C. ran...

My wife and I stayed here recently on a Friday and Saturday night.

Meeting Street Inn is located in the historic section of Charleston. It was built around 1874.

The location is perfect as it is close to many things and is within walking distance to many fine restaurants, visiting the harbor, shops, and art galleries.

The room we stayed in had the old southern touch and was quite spacious. The bed was very high off the ground.

Meeting Street Inn provides an open parking lot across the street at an additional cost ($12/day). This is important because parking is a problem in the historic section of Charleston.

The breakfast offers a wide range of choices, good coffee & teas, orange juice, and milk. Nothing fancy bet quite adequate.

Meeting Street Inn has a secluded patio surrounded with beautiful vines, orange trees, rosemary bushes, and bistro tables & chairs

The wine/cheese reception in the afternoon (from 5:30 - 6:30) was very nice and provided an easy way to meet the hotel’s guests. The hotel provides water, lemonade and iced tea 24/7. The coffee was very good.

As another poster said, “Meeting Street Inn hits the mark between expensive bed & breakfasts and impersonal hotels; just right.”

Would highly recommend, as the price for the location simply can't be beat.

Our suite(Soho) was larger than expected with modern decor and luxurious amenities such as surround sound system, jacuzzi, and large shower head. Our bedroom had a king bed with comfortable white linens, but no windows which was a positive to keep out sunlight and road noise. Don't look at the window sills(disgusting). Do not open the windows! 95% chance a bird will fly in as they live right above. The closet light was not working. I did notice some stains in the carpet and on the couch in the living room. I liked the tiled bath with separate sink. There were no hand towels and no glasses, but we improvised with some from the kitchen. Having a kitchen is always a plus, but there were no utensils. There are 2 grocery stores within half a mile. Downstairs is a Sticky Fingers (mmm... mmmmm) and the location in downtown Charleston is the main reason we chose to stay here, very walkable to all sights and shopping. No need for a car, use a pedicab(we recommend Brandon). The entrance was almost blocked at times by an army of trash cans; an eye sore and a nose sore, if there is such a thing. You are not going to find a more modern accomodation with this much space for a better price. We'd stay here again. You do have to be persistent if you want a response from the management.

  • Liked — space, location, modern decor
  • Disliked — service, cleanliness, elevator(needs an inspection)
