“Our Stay in Charleston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

Staff was wonderful. Very Helpful. Professional...Friendly... The Hotel was beautiful. I did not eat in Restaurant. However, the room service was ok. Nothing exceptional about the food.

Very close to downtown area which made it nice for walking.

I will say, Do not got to Charleston during "Restaurant week." Ugh, finding a place to eat with no reservations was a nightmare. The Restaurants were all fully booked all weekend. We've never heard of Restaurant week.

We spent 3.5 days in Charleston trying out many of the top restaurants there, and we will be back for more. Our enjoyable stay at this new Holiday Inn, just off King street and its many restaurants and shops, is also one of the reasons why this trip was memorable and why we will return. The hotel is very new, modern, and clean. We found the staff to be very friendly. Our room was large and well appointed, and in excellent shape. We arrived after a long drive and were greeted instantly by Austin (?), the valet who was exceedingly friendly and helpful with local recommendations. We checked in and went straight for a wonderful dinner at the Charleston Grill, and our short vacation was off to a great start. We let the car in the garage throughout the stay and did everything on foot. The area around the hotel appears to be under development (noise was not an issue during our stay) with new condos and an interesting mix of old and new architecture. I really hope Holiday Inn will be able to maintain this level of quality at their downtown location. Well done!

We stayed two nights at the Inn. Super close to great restaurants on King Street. A longer walk to places in the heart of historic district but good value. Great rooms, small gym and a nice small outvale heated pool and lounge area. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only issue was the noise from other rooms. I would stay there again.

This hotel is out on the edge of the historic district, in a area where buildings are being demolished (or falling down). The view out the window was discouraging when we first arrived. However, a walk down Meeting Street brings you to the Museum Mile in a few short blocks, and walking over to King Street brings you to blocks and blocks of restaurants, shops and bars, all located in attractive and well maintained old buildings. Service at this hotel is excellent and the staff is outstanding.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money on a balcony room - the view from the balcony is awful.

Thank you for sharing your comments following your recent visit. The building which you refer to is actually being restored and a luxury condominium being built. In Charleston any building built with brick that is over seventy five years old can not be demolished and the existing brick must be maintained.
On closing, I am glad you enjoyed your visit and received the guest experience we strive to provide.
Thank you.

Nice hotel with great service located only about a 15 minute walk from the main downtown area. The walk to the historic district is easy and you pass a lot of shops and restaurants along the way if you walk along king street. Everything was clean, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the pool was basic but nice.

Stayed here last week because we couldn't get a good rate nearer to the french quarter. Property and the hotel rooms a very good. Only draw back is it takes 20 minutes to walk to market street. While it advertises as historic downtown, it is a little on the fringe of the historic downtown area. Cab ride to market street was about $10 dollars ($9 one day $12 the next, go figure). If you don't mind the walk, or taking a cab, this hotel is well worth the money. Great bartender, friendly and professional (they even got us some food at 4:00 pm even though the kitchen didn't open until 5:00.

We appreciate you sharing your opinion following your recent stay.
We are located in an area of Downtown which I am sure you noticed is undergoing a transformation, and as you kindly pointed out, a very economic alternative to the more expensive hotels located nearer the Market and French Quarter.
The inconsistency in your cab fares is strange. A good option is to use the complimentary trolley which stops directly across the road from the hotel and runs every twenty minutes, to and from the Battery and center of the Historic District.
On closing, I am delighted you liked the hotel, and I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on any return visit.
Thank you.

We stayed at this hotel on New Year's Eve after returning from a cruise. What a wonderful experience! It all started from the moment we drove up, from the valet parking attendant to the check in process. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! It gets better. Our room was beautiful, spacious and clean. Food in the restaurant was good as well. Each and every time we saw a staff member, we were greeting with a smile and kind word. Will definitely recommend to friends!
