“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stayed at this hotel at the end of March at the same time Charleston was in the midst of some unseasonably cold weather but the hotel itself and the welcome by the staff was very warm. We had some concerns about the location prior to our arrival due to other comments on TA but were quite happy once we arrived to leave our car safely parked as we explored downtown Charleston on foot. It all depends what you are used to I suppose but we had no issue with the distance from the centre but if you don't like to walk there is the free shuttle or else pay the higher rate for a central hotel! The hotel is new and the staff all seem to have a pride in keeping it clean and tidy and in an "as new" condition,
Our room was a good size with the usual frig and coffee maker which is useful and the bathroom had a large powerful shower. We weren't able to use the pool but it looked like it will popular in the heat of the summer. In particular we liked the "library" room on the second floor, a comfortable space to sit after a long day sightseeing if you didn't want to sit in your room, although our other favourite place was the bar! The hotel has a great bar with entertaining and knowledgeable bar staff unfortunately we weren't able to try the restaurant but we really enjoyed the meal we had in the bar. We would definitely return to this hotel if we are in Charleston again.

Thank you for leaving such a comprehensive review following your recent visit.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay and will share your kind remarks with the hotel and restaurant staff.
As you note, our location while not in the middle of Downtown does give travellers a more economic option when deciding where to stay.
I'm sorry the weather did not co-operate during your visit, but Spring is definately in the air.
We hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on any futuure visit to Charleston.
Thanks

I would not call their exact location "downtown". If you enjoy walking, it is a nice, safe walk to downtown in daytime hours, a 15 minute walk. Lots of sidewalks for the walk which is a plus. There is a free trolley service that serves Charleston and one of these stops is directly across the street from the hotel entrance, which is super for cold or rainy mornings when walking is not enjoyable. The employees here were wonderful. Always a warm smile and hello. Our room was nice and spacious. Two things I did not like: no microwave and a safe that does not work. We called the front desk to ask about the safe and the front desk clerk said, "Our safes are not working, but you are welcome to leave anything at the front desk." Ummm, no. Beds and pillows were comfortable, room was clean and the kids enjoyed the huge flat screen TV with cable since we don't have cable at home. There was a refrigerator in the room. Large bathroom with Bath and Body Works amenities. We ordered dinner one evening from the restaurant downstairs and the kids meals were very large. If you have a couple of kids, only order one. We ate breakfast here once and their grits were comparable to any other area restaurants. Fast, friendly service.

We probably would not return to this hotel on our next visit, but only because we would like to be closer to downtown. Everything else was very nice.

Room Tip: The rooms must be sound proof, because you don't hear much outside noise.

I believe this hotel has potential. The view from our room window was of a dilapidated building, but as long as you keep the curtains closed, you should be good. The downtown area across the street from the hotel is under reconstruction, so in time, I'm sure the view will improve. The room and hotel itself were very clean and well kept. The front desk staff were very friendly. The breakfast staff could definitely use some help. It seemed the 3 young men were running around like chickens with their heads cut off and the dining area really didn't appear to be THAT busy. Just getting our drinks took almost a half hour and when the waiter finally brought my coffee, I kindly requested cream for the coffee. The gentleman stated he would get it for me right away, but apparently forgot. I ended up having to ask another waiters/kitchen staff member for the cream, but by then my coffee was luke warm. The location was decent. We didn't have a car so we ended up doing a lot of walking. Charleston was absolutely wonderful though and I'm sure I will return in the future.

Thank you for sharing your comments following your recent stay.
As you mention the surrounding area is being redeveloped and the landscape will definately change over the coming year.
I am delighted you enjoyed your stay but would like to offer my apologies for the problematic service you received while having breakfast. We have added additional service staff in the restaurant and also implimented a buffet during breakfast which speeds up service.
On closing, I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back when you next visit Charleston.
Thank you.

The hotel was upscale and clean. The staff was wonderful and took care of everything cheerfully. The trolley picked us up 2 blocks away. The best restaurants were also 2 blocks away. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. We will be staying there again the next time we visit Charleston.

Location could have been better. It is a little walk to the fun things to do.

Next time we go, i would try to look for something closer. But this was definitely value for money.

The hotel is new and very nice but some issues to resolve since it is new.
The staff was great and so helpful and all go out of their way to assist you.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. It is about a mile from Historic District but is an easy walk and public transportation. There are many great restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. This part of town is growing.

We picked this hotel primarily based on cost, being considerably lower than other historic area hotels. Everything is brand new and clean. Parking was reasonable ($16/daily) which allowed us to go in and out for the basic price and the car was always ready quickly. We received some help from concierge (who, I think, was really doing double duty at the front desk) but she clearly didn't compare to what I've read about other hotels with amazing guest services. We did a lot of our own research, so this wasn't an issue. The walk to the center of the historic area is a bit long, but being physically fit "older" visitors, we didn't mind. A free shuttle service sometimes was on time and gave us a break back and forth. As an aside, most people told us to walk everywhere, but we found it very easy to drive to restaurants at night and find inexpensive lots or street parking, though I'm sure as it gets warmer and more crowded, walking would be better.
