I would not call their exact location "downtown". If you enjoy walking, it is a nice, safe walk to downtown in daytime hours, a 15 minute walk. Lots of sidewalks for the walk which is a plus. There is a free trolley service that serves Charleston and one of these stops is directly across the street from the hotel entrance, which is super for cold or rainy mornings when walking is not enjoyable. The employees here were wonderful. Always a warm smile and hello. Our room was nice and spacious. Two things I did not like: no microwave and a safe that does not work. We called the front desk to ask about the safe and the front desk clerk said, "Our safes are not working, but you are welcome to leave anything at the front desk." Ummm, no. Beds and pillows were comfortable, room was clean and the kids enjoyed the huge flat screen TV with cable since we don't have cable at home. There was a refrigerator in the room. Large bathroom with Bath and Body Works amenities. We ordered dinner one evening from the restaurant downstairs and the kids meals were very large. If you have a couple of kids, only order one. We ate breakfast here once and their grits were comparable to any other area restaurants. Fast, friendly service.
We probably would not return to this hotel on our next visit, but only because we would like to be closer to downtown. Everything else was very nice.
