“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

What a great hotel and so very convenient--a minute walk to the free shuttle stop that takes you all over Charleston. The staff was excellent. I wish I could remember the bellmen's names-- they were the best. And the clerks at the front desk were great. I had requested a refrigerator and it was there when we checked in. The breakfast was huge. Charming courtyard for dining. Loved the hot cookies in the afternoon!! Couldn't have needed anything more. Perfect!!

Six of us stayed five nights at the Hampton Inn and enjoyed every minute. The staff was wonderful and very helpful, especially the front desk. We were able to get into our rooms earlier than the 4 pm check-in and all three rooms were next to each other. They opened our evening wine for us as we celebrated Happy Hour poolside and Curtis' chocolate chip cookies every day at 5:30p were delicious! The location was very good for the price. The Visitor's Center right across the street provided lots of info on the area was the central location for most tours. The free trolly is also across the street. Would definitely go back.

Spent three nights here in October 2013... Very impressed. Good room, friendly staff, great breakfast. Most important, superb location. Right across the street from Charleston trolleys...minutes from all the most important scenic stops in the city...and from the Children's museum. Good parking.

Room Tip: Corner suites are best.

We booked this Hampton Inn for its supposedly perfect location in the historic district. Be aware, it is really a one mile walk to anywhere, except the visitor's center, the Aiken- Rhett house and the Charleston Museum.
The positives- a garage (despite the $14 a night charge), comfortable beds, a safe location and free breakfast.
We requested a fridge in the room (based on other reviewers recommendations). We were not told that this meant the main light in the room would be permanently removed for our 3 night stay. Despite a request for an adapter to plug this extremely important light in the room, we were not accomodated. We had only the hall light, bedside lights and a small desk lamp to light the entire room. It was not acceptable! The other issue was the toilet not flushing properly. It took a prolonged flush or multiple flushes to work properly. I also informed the front desk of this issue with no resolution.
Our second floor room was quite noisy and we could hear each foot step above our heads.
We would not return.

Room Tip: Top floor to avoid the sound of other travelers above you

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the historic district. After checking reviews and prices we selected Hampton. We were not disappointed and it more than met our needs - clean, friendly, great location, fitness room and breakfast. Not a 5 star, but more than adequate for us "regular" people. We walked everywhere and would stay there again. If you want true luxury, it will cost at least four times as much.

This is an older, re-purposed building in the heart of downtown Charleston. Hampton has done an excellent job of restoration. The staff was friendly and efficient at check-in, and at other times when we asked for information. The room was fine, and the bathroom was nicely updated.

Breakfast was above the standard Hampton fare. There were lots of people eating, but the breakfast area was large enough to handle the crowd; others ate on the enclosed courtyard outside, and the adjacent lobby area.

The hotel is conveniently located directly across street from the Charleston Visitor Center, which is the starting point for many local tour buses. It is only a block from the restaurants and shops along King Street.

Parking is available in the nearby parking garage about 100 ft from the hotel. There is a reasonable $12 a day fee, which allows you to depart/return as needed during the day.

I stayed at this hotel using my points and found it to be an ok hotel. The hotel is in an old building and the room was small. The hotel does have a nice garden area with a pool and the hotel is located across the street from the visitor’s center which is nice. To get to the City Market it is about a 20 minute walk, the farmers market on Saturday is just of couple of blocks over from the hotel. There is easy access to Kings Street where there are many restaurants to choose from. There is a parking garage attached to the hotel which is easy to get in and out of and costs $14.00 a day.
