“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

The hotel is in the perfect location. It's across the the street from the free trolley and just a half block away from King street. the doorman was super nice, the reception folks business only, and the room was lovely. absolutely spotless. Ours had 2 queens and a mini pullout sofa that was perfect for our third child. the breakfast was nice and there was plenty of room to eat. Our only problem was that our room would not cool down.

Very clean hotel. Nice updated bathroom. Felt safe. Close to everything. Loved being able to get the free trolley just steps from the hotel. Can't beat a free breakfast buffet. Would definitely use this hotel again.

This is an ideal place to stay in Charleston. The parking garage is adjacent to the hotel so very convenient for any coming and going you need to do. The free area shuttle stop is directly across the street so it is easy to take advantage of easy transportation for your sightseeing. They offer a good selection on their hot breakfast buffet which is included in your room price and always a free beverage station set up in the lobby which we took advantage of after walking around in the COLD while we were there. Rooms were clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall a great choice while in Charleston.

Upon arriving at the Hampton Inn Charleston-Historic District, I instantly knew that we had made a perfect choice for our Charleston getaway. The hotel lobby area is beautiful and charming. They have a complimentary beverage station set up with an assortment of hot coffees, as well as hot water for hot chocolate or tea. They even had my husband's favorite french vanilla creamer! The rooms are extremely comfortable. The bed that we slept in was amazing. The softness of the sheets was pure heaven! One great thing about this hotel is that not only are the sheets washed every day, but the duvet cover on the bed is washed for every guest - something that not every hotel does. The bathroom was clean with lovely fixtures as well.
Aside from the cleanliness and charm of the hotel, every staff member that we encountered was warm and friendly. The free breakfast that is included with your stay definitely adds to the value. The breakfast featured hot foods as well as items such as fruit, cereal and pastries. My favorite was the waffle maker.
Finally, the location of this hotel is wonderful. Everything is truly within walking distance. The hotel is located directly across the street from the Visitors' Center, which has tons of information about activities and tours. The hotel is 1 block away from King Street, which is a hot spot featuring tons of restaurants and stores. My husband and I walked pretty much everywhere from our hotel. However, if you are not in the mood to walk, the free trolly stops right across the street from the hotel. On a side note, we did not rent a car for this getaway, and were pleased with this decision as we did not see any need for it. :)
Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel, and look forward to staying here again!

April 2013: We thought this was going to be a fairly low level hotel for our vacation in Charleston SC. You know..basic Hampton Inn on Jersey turnpike sort of thing. It turned out really nice. The staff was excellent courteous, and helpful. The Inn was large well decorated and clean and welcoming in appearance. Its a vibrant place with lots of guests milling around and sitting in the lobby. The lobby was large and well designed for many to sit and socialize and have a great varied breakfast (included in daily price). The rooms were large and well equipped. My teenager had a pullout couch to sleep in. There was a microwave and fridge. WiFi was free in the room. Its about a mile walk to the most elegant part of Old downtown but the walk is really nice and passes many nice shops. You can also take a free trolly. The beds were very comfortable. Its really nice how they put out cookies, tea and coffee, orange juice throughout the day. Id return with out reservation. Cost is moderate: ($250-300/night per room).

Loud, a/c not working, toilet very slow to flush; horrible room. If we were not so tired & knew that this was just a one night stay, we would have definitely asked for another room! Will look elsewhere next time we go through town.

I was so very sorry to see your review of our hotel. We strive to provide the absolute best possible accomdations and service in the area and simply hate when we don't accomplish that. I certainly wish you would have made mention of the problem. It is our goal to ensure that each guest has an amazing time in our city and hotel. I hope you will reconsider not staying here again. We understand we need to earn your business every time and would like a chance to do it again.

This location is across from the Visitor's Center and near the Museum, and at the intersection of all the free trolley routes. Once we parked the car ($14.00/daily) we never used it again and walked to all of our destinations and took the trolley back. Also the area on King Street has lovely little shops, casual and fine dining restaurants once rather than the big name stores further south on King Street.
This area is also convenient to the College of Charleston and to the Aquarium.

The staff is attentive but not intrusive, they are used to scores of people coming in and out. You will not get the sort of intimate experience that you might have closer to the battery, further south into town. Breakfast buffet each morning was varied and well spaced EXCEPT for the coffee station stuck in a dead end corner, and was kept full and clean. The hotel adds banquet rounds to the lobby to accommodate the rush which is very thoughtful on their part. There is a taxi stand and a kiosk for brochures etc.

The hotel is part old and part new, with single pane windows that are drafty but I prefer that to feeling sealed off from the outside air. Most impressive was the maintenance and cleanliness even to the pool area that was not open yet skimmed each day.

Once the weather warms up the outside courtyard will be a lovely location for breakfast. A five star stay!

Room Tip: No bad rooms, they all have some type of city view.
