“Clean and Nice Hotel - Decent Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

After shopping around for hotels in Charleston we settled on this Hampton Inn. The rooms are nothing extravagant but are great for the price. The location is decent and the building is pretty cool overall. They staff was very friendly and they do provide complimentary breakfast each morning (which is just ok, but nice that it's included). Overall we were pleased with this hotel and would stay again.

This hotel is right across the street from the visitor's center and free trolleys stop right outside the hotel, so its in a convenient location. We like Hampton Inns, so found everything satisfactory and as expected, with the exception of the sound level in our room. Outside the room there was a huge air handling unit that cycled on every 10 minutes, running for 4-5 minutes. (Can you tell I couldn't sleep?)

Room Tip: Avoid room 225.

We chose the Hampton Inn Charleston - Historic District because we were looking for lodging near the TD Arena (attending a basketball tournament) and within walking distance to other points of interest. Once we parked our car at the adjacent public parking (with in and out privileges and an acceptable daily rate for hotel guests) we never took the car out for the rest of our 4 day visit. The hotel is located right across from the visitor's center and a free trolley is available although we walked everywhere easily. Marion Square Park is nearby and restaurants and shopping were easily accessed by foot. The daily rate was much more affordable than other hotels in the nearby area.

The desk staff and door attendant were friendly. The public space was large enough to find a place to eat during their free hot breakfast which was served until 10:00 am. The breakfast was one of the nicer complimentary breakfasts we have used. They also had coffee and hot water for tea in the lobby set up round the clock. However, they need to check their urns as two evenings the hot water was empty. Cookies were also set out (first come first serve).

The room was clean. The bed was comfortable ( a priority for my poor low back). The bathroom was roomy and we had a micro-fridge in our room as well. The hallways were clean, although showing a bit of wear in places which was no issue for us.

All in all it was a great stay and we would use the hotel again when we are in Charleston.

Room Tip: We were on the fifth floor facing the visitors' center so it was quiet. It was a king room with...

We came to Charleston for a wedding, and this was one of two hotels that there were room blocks to stay in. We found the location pretty good--short walking distance to good restaurants and fun shopping streets. The outside of the building is actually pretty unattractive in a city of gorgeous buildings. The lobby is nice and they have coffee in the lobby at all times which was nice. Since we're from the northeast, we were hoping to swim in the pool at the end of the summer, but it's kind of awkwardly placed in a corner of the courtyard in the shade. When we went out to see the pool, we got locked out from the door to the courtyard, and had to re-enter the hotel through the lobby, which could be awkward in a swimsuit! The rooms were average. I've found with other Hampton Inns that we've stayed at, the chain does a good job standardizing things, although the down side is that none of the hotels are that special. One final note, although we never encountered any problems when we were there, there was a car that had been broken into in the parking lot of the hotel that day. I'm sure that could probably happen anywhere, but it was just something else that I noticed.

Had a great stay at this hotel. Perfect location if you are visiting the College of Charleston. Easy walking distance to many great restaurants and attractions. Rooms were spacious and clean. Extra pillows and blankets were no problem. Large lobby provided plenty of space for complimentary breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Would gladly stay here again.

Our stay at Hampton Inn Charleston - Historic District was short and comfortable.
Our room was clean big enough for 2 with two double beds.
The hotel is walking distance from the city life .
We enjoyed their swimming pool and the complimentary breakfast.
Parking is a bit expensive but necessary.
The staff is helpfull and they helped us with a little problem we had while we were there.
Wi-Fi worked fine in our room,I think we will stay there again in future.

This was such a nice Hampton Inn. Very clean rooms. We had a small issue in the bathroom with our toilet but there work crew was on it within ten minutes and the problem was resolved quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions to places. The continental breakfast had many choices. More than most hotels. It was very tasty and more healthy choices to choose from. It was near all the downtown attractions. Overall we throughly enjoyed our stay at this Hampton Inn.
