“Great location for College of Charleston Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012 via mobile

My son and I just stayed here while touring College of Charleston. The location was perfect. Walking distance to campus, the basketball arena as well as dining and shopping. The room was a typical Marriott room, clean, nice nothing super fancy. Starbucks coffee in the lobby made me happy. Huge park across the street. I will stay there again when I go back. By the way, the city is amazing!!!!

Dear VacaAddict,

Thank you for staying with us during your visit to the College of Charleston. We are an ideal location for anyone visiting the College and we frequently have families of students staying with us.

The TD Arena is directly across the street from our new wing on Meeting street which is where all the basketball and volleyball matches take place. The other buildings on campus are all very convenient to our hotel just blocks away.

The park you mention across the street is Marion Square which is also the site of the Farmers Market every Saturday.

We hope you will return soon, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the College of Charleston will be the top choice!

Sincerely,
John Dallas

The Marriott Courtyard Charleston is very nice and the staff is super friendly. However, what made our trip so spectacular is Kevin McQuade, Concierge. Kevin is friendly, knowledgeable and will definitely steer you in the right direction. He planned our Tommy Dew historic walking tour and arranged immediate reservations for us at several restaurants including the delicious MacIntosh. He was so kind to take us on a stunning, evening tour of Charleston. What a treat!! Kevin McQuade is truly a Gem!! Because of Kevin we had an exceptional trip without wasting time or money. If only all hotels had someone like Kevin to create such memorable travel experiences! If you travel to Charleston, you must see Kevin. Enthusiastically, he will guide you to make the best of your stay in Charming Charleston.

My sister and I went to Charleston for the weekend, and like always, we stay at Marriott hotels. The location was excellent, the staff was great, BUT the difference here is Kevin McQuade the concierge! He is awesome! I have been to many Marriotts all over the world, and Kevin is hands down the best concierge I have ever met. His knowledge of Charleston was unbelievable and his connections to tours and restaurants was amazing! A call from Kevin and you're in to any restaurant or tour! His maps are made by him with every place you need to go to in Charleston, including where public bathrooms are! Our highlight was a walking night tour he took us on-seeing the city and homes and gardens at night was a special treat we will not soon forget! Thanks, Kevin-you're the best!

Dear Mary E,

Thank you for being a loyal Marriott guest and for spending time with us here in Charleston.

For you to say that Kevin is the best among all Concierge in the Marriott family is certainly high praise. We know that there are some great Concierge throughout Marriott hotels and I am confident that Kevin would rank very high because he is so passionate about what he does, and most importantly, continuously seeking higher satisfaction from the guests that he serves.

We have a daily conversation about what can be done better, all in the interest of creating a uniquely Charleston experience for our guests. That is also what separates Kevin from the rest, he will never be content or rest on his laurels.

Have a great holiday season!
Warm Regards,
John Dallas

My wife and I recently went to Charleston and had a fantastic 2-night stay at the Courtyard. It was centrally located (between both the historic area and the more restaurant-oriented North-King St area), so we had a great time walking everywhere and exploring the city.

Now, for the concierge...and I must caveat this, my wife and I normally don't consult the concierge...that's what TripAdvisor is for! But our concierge Kevin McQuade was amazing. We stopped by for a quick "hey can we get a map of the city" and spent a good 45 mins with Kevin getting tips on how to see the city, tours to take and restaurants to eat at. Not to mention, he has all sorts of pre-prepared maps and must-see city sites that made traversing the city (we spent our first day on bikes) akin to a scavenger hunt. It was a blast!

Definitely recommend this hotel and make sure you stop by and see Kevin! Thanks so much for making our stay so great!

Hotel is in a nice location but expect to walk at least 15 minutes to get to city market area. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Our only complaint was that our room was not serviced by 3:30pm one day when we got back after a full day of sightseeing. Kevin, the concierge was amazing, thorough, and made every minute of our 3 day stay a memorable experience. His knowledge of everything in the city was 100 %. His magical nighttime stroll was beautiful, as were his sightseeing and restaurant reservations. It is rare to have a concierge at Marriott Courtyards, but even rarer to have someone as industrious as Kevin and his colleague Elizabeth. More Marriott hotels need a concierge like Kevin. He is exceptional.

Dear MiamiSheila,

Thank you for your review and we appreciate the great feedback from a Top Contributor on TripAdvisor.

We were happy to see that Kevin put a magical spin on your visit and that your experience was quite memorable. It is a 15 minute walk to the city market but we find more and more that our guests are interested in different venues such as the Fort Sumter boat tour which is about a 4 block walk from our hotel which is also where the Aquarium is located.

We apologize for not getting your room cleaned by 3:30pm on one of the days during your visit. When we know that you are going to be out for a specific time we are always happy to schedule the cleaning and we recommend that our guests give us that communication. As a rule we clean the vacating rooms first so it can often be as late as 5:30pm before the housekeepers have finished with all of their rooms.

We would enjoy the opportunity to serve you again. Thank you again for being our guest.

Warm Regards,

John Dallas

This hotel was amazing! From the beginning of my check-in with Maggie, who was so concerned for getting me just the right room and to clarifying my room reservations for me. She started the trip off with such a delightful smile & attitude for customer satisfaction and then proceeded to get the bellman Aaron for us. He had a smile even as he unloaded our many heavy bags from the trunk and back seat of our car to unloading them in our room.
The next person I want to recogize is Kevin McQuade. To be honest, I would have chosen another hotel if not for Kevin and his professionalism and desire to help us with our trip. Even before we arrived in Charleston, Kevin's reputation gave us the confidence to contact him personally and then plan our trip on the telephone days before arriving. I would recommend anyone do this as this is helpful for an excellent experience. Ask him for his evening tour, which will be the highlight of your trip. We ate at all the best restaurants, had excellent tours and any problem we were concerned about, Kevin took care of it! This is a very nice hotel with Kevin being the Icing on the cake! With many "McQuades famous Charleston maps and helpful cards" his directions and recommendations definitely made our trip fool proof. We were able to see and do so much more thanks to Kevin. Just stop and see him you will see what everyone raves about!
Now a final word for for Katie our Maid - she was from Ukrain and so happy to be helping keep our room clean and supplied for our stay. She worked so hard and again greeted me in the hall with a smile and is there anything I can get you? For all the hard working staff at this Courtyard Historic District Thank you so much for making our trip a memoriable experience for years to come. WE WILL RETURN!

Room Tip: Corner Suites are very large & have many windows. Thet are somewhat noiser than pool side, but u...

I selected this hotel based on other Trip Advisor reviews and have not been disappointed. I booked approximately 6 weeks early and the price was extremely competitive with others in the historic district. The concierge (Elizabeth Fraser) was fantastic in helping plan our week from sightseeing and tours to great places to eat. She was very knowledgeable about the area and spent a fair amount of time with us and didn't even try to rush through the planning. The hotel is nice and clean and I have been pleased with the amenities including the Fitness Center. Parking is a tight because the deck is small but it's manageable. The pillows are very soft but this is a tiny, tiny nit that I'm sure they can fix if I mention it. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Charleston.
