This is a larger property than many hotels in the area. With its proximity to the airport and the very abundant meeting spaces, it's reasonable to expect this is a property that caters ore to medium size meetings than it does families and business travelers.
Still, there are a lot of touches than have gone buh-bye in the last few years that this property still possesses. There is still a complementary (and very prompt) shuttle to and from the airport. I don't think I waited five minutes after calling the hotel before the shuttle was there to pick me up outside the taxi stand.
The rooms are nice, but certainly a bit dated. A high point: the outlets are actually above the desk. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Check in wasn't just good - it was excellent. The young, but very skilled professional noticed that my account information was out of date and corrected it. I was a little concerned when I was saw (and smelled) the very musty hallways. However, the room is clean enough and the bedding is comfortable. The furnishings are a bit dated when compared to the tech-friendly properties you see in major cities, but its clear the hotel has put a good amount of money into a soft refurb in the last couple of years. I don't think it's realistic to hope for a hard refurb in the current climate.
There is a pool on the first floor, and it's certainly a product of a bygone era that it's located immediately adjacent to the meeting rooms. You won't see that in a current era property. Good security on getting *into* the pool, which I point out as something many hotels forget. You need a card key to get into the pool area as well as back into the hotel itself. Very sensible.
The restaurant has some odd hours, but the bar made up for it. Excellent service from two very overworked young people who managed to take care of a reasonably busy room with a lot of good grace, excellent service and friendliness - without crossing the line into TGI Friday's penchant for "How you guys doing" obnoxious interruption.
No, this isn't the George V. But it's a nice, respectable property that's quiet, well maintained for its age and clearly putting effort into propping up a bit of a dowager with very good service.
Smokers beware: This property has a very strict no-smoking policy and may charge you a $200 fee if they find any signs of smoking in a room. Personally, I'm all over that. But our smoking travelers should be forewarned.
