My family and I (wife and one daughter) recently stayed at Charleston Place Hotel, Club Level for a family vacation, and to celebrate our anniversary. This was our second stay at Charleston Pace Club level, the first being our Honeymoon 5 years ago. We found everything to be great, and just as we remembered it (minus the large bugs in the room that we had during our first stay)
First off I want to praise the Palmetto Café staff, especially our waiter (John) We felt like VIPs during our lunch, and that was just simply awesome, it ended up being a major highlight of our stay. Secondly the dinner we had at Charleston Grill was unforgettable, and I recommend the tasting menu when available, with the wine pairings. Lastly the champagne and strawberries that was sent to our room from the Manager was a nice compliment , and we sincerely appreciate it.
However we did experience the following issues:
1. One of the club level lounge bartenders (Frank) seemed very standoffish, and rude I would give him 0 starts in every category. He would act as if you should not be there. The have a rule of no liquor before 5 PM, which is fine. However if someone comes at 4:59 you go ahead and start pouring, you don't chastise them for coming and asking for something before 5. Maybe their watch said 5 already. The rest of the staff was very receptive and I would give them 5 starts, apart from the club level concierge whom I would give 3 stars.she seemed engrossed in the Internet, and unwelcoming when you approached.
2. The "Spa" was undergoing painting, and the hot tub was closed for my entire stay, and each day I was told it would be open tomorrow, which was a flat out lie. The first day I went down to get in, and it was drained. Also the mens locker room was closed two days of my stay, and even when it did reopen there were painters everywhere in the hallway, and the door was left open. This may not be a big deal for some people, however the hot tub, steam room, and sauna, all all a HUGE part of my relaxation and overall vacation experience. If I had known in advance these amenities may not be available I may have considered staying some where else.
3. I know this review may get a manager response, something to affect of "why didn't this customer bring this to our attention during their stay...." Well to answer that I had planned on advising the front desk of these issues upon checkout. Normally when you check out somewhere, the question should be asked "How was you stay?" well it never was.
I plan to write a letter to management to inform them of these issues so that maybe they can be corrected. I love the Charleston Place Hotel, and hope they can learn of these issues, so that improvements can be made. Overall it is a great place to stay..
