“Wonderful hotel/location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

The Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel exceeded all our expectations. The location is perfect....short walks to all the sights, shopping and restaurants in the historic district. We had a large room with sofa, chair, desk, coffee maker. fridge, large TV, large bathroom and wonderfully quiet. The staff was wonderful. The Wentworth Bistro served excellent breakfast, and good bistro style meals. The gym is well equipped and the pool is a great little spot swimming some laps. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had an upgraded corner room. Well worth it.

The Renaissance Hotel was really a lovely place to stay. It was very clean, staff helpful and has a great location. You can easily walk to restaurants, shopping and museums. We thoroughly enjoyed the heated pool off the 3rd floor, plenty of loungers and towels available. We took the ferry ride(15 minute walk from hotel) around the river for 1.5 hours. It was a lovely trip on a sunny 70 degree day with the added delight of seeing dolphins swimming along side the boat. The drinks at the hotel bar were pricey - 2 drinks $28 with tip. I highly recommend this hotel.

We decided to travel to Charleston on a whim and decided to bid on Priceline the night before. Hotel prices were so high, but we really wanted to stay in the historic area. I was so relieved when the hotel was revealed to be the Renaissance. It's a quaint little boutique style hotel that offered great customer service and lovely accommodations. It was within walking distance to everything. We never even thought about our car until it was time to go. I'm not sure I would pay the $300+ rates we saw on the Marriott site, but it was a great deal for $125 Priceline bid.

Room Tip: There is some construction going on one side of the hotel. Ask for a room on the opposite end.

This hotel is a little jewel tucked into the historic district. Thee is a fee for parking, but the good news is that you never have to think about your car until you leave. (If you are in reasonably good shape, you can walk everywhere. The best way to discover Charleston is on foot, wandering through all the brick streets and alleys, peering into secret gardens... Ask for a map at the front desk.) The uniformed doormen are a lovely welcome and it only gets better. The lobby is classic yet stylish. The entire hotel was immaculate. The bathroom was first class in every respect. The bedding was comfortable and the room was quiet, no hint of being in the center of the city. The highlight of our stay was breakfast the next morning. The buffet was delicious, elegantly presented, but the real star was the waiter. His level of professionalism, friendliness, and perfect service are a lasting memory of our travels that took over a month!

Superb location and well appointed hotel in historic district--no car needed! Room was lovely with a view of some church spires and comfortably furnished. Bathroom had best shower of hotel we have stayed in in YEARS. Nice shampoos and and amenities (coffee etc) Comfortable bed and good linens--excellent pillows. Housekeeping was terrific as were all on staff we came in contact with. The in house Wentworth Grill was excellent--bar and staff superb, breakfast staff extremely accommodating. Expensive parking, but no parking in Charleston is easy, so this is unavoidable.

By the way, the fitness center is exceptional!!

Room Tip: We had room 401 which was large and at the end of the floor--very luxe!! It was very quiet, as i im...

My second time staying here. Great location, the double room we had was a nice size and very comfortable with a nice size bathroom. is located within walking distance to many great restaurants and sights as well as the main shopping street right behind the hotel.

Hotel and staff were without a doubt living up to the expectation of the southern hospitality.
Fully efficient, accommodating. Very prompt with answers and suggestions when asked.

Great location, everything is walking distance from this Renaissance Hotel in the most beautiful restored neighborhood. Loved the palm trees. Nice restaurants and shops.

I did not notice when checking in that my room was above the entry to the hotel. The street was undergoing heavy construction repair, so without question, morning rest was not to be had.

Room Tip: Make sure there is not construction below your room!!!

Brian W, General Manager at Renaissance Charleston Historic District, responded to this review, March 9, 2014
Thank you very much for your feedback about your recent stay. As a native of the Lowcountry, I'm very proud that our team of Ambassadors were able to offer you the type of service experience that can only be described as true "southern hospitality." I also appreciate your comments about the hotel's incredible location in the heart of the historic district as I'm humbled by the oppurunity to lead a hotel that's perfectly situated in what I believe to be America's best travel destination. Finally, I wanted to apologize for any inconveniences you experienced from the sounds of construction that permeated our typically quiet Ansonborough neigborhood and the entire historic district last week. I'm told that noisy foundation work at the construction site at the corner of Meeting and Wentworth Streets should be completed this week. My hope is that during your return stay with us that the only sounds you may hear are the result of a gentle harbor breeze rustling our palm trees. Thank you again.

Regards,

Brian Wander
