“Very nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2011

My wife and I went to a fundraiser here in Atlanta. As part of the program they had a silent auction which included an item for a stay at the Rennaissance in Charleston's Historic District. I had never been to Charleston, so that prize sounded good - and it was.

During the auction I kept saying yes when my wife kept asking me if she should increase her bid. (There was an open bar at the fund raiser also. This may have been a factor.) We won the lodging.

Making the reservation required a couple of phone calls since it was a donated item.

When we got there, they gave us a room with the best view. In Charleston any structure cannot be higher than one of the church steeples. The Renaissance is higher than any of the other adjacent buildings but that is not very high; so, the view is okay, but not sensational. However, that is not the hotel's fault.

Driving in Charleston is not easy, parking is worse. The good news here is that you can park across the street from the hotel in a parking garage that has spaces reserved for the hotel guests. You can go in and out with no additional charge.

You can also use valet parking for a little more money.

There are "trolley cars" and other forms of tourist travel available. The "trolley cars" are free. You can park your car and forget about it until you leave, if you want to. Or if you fly in, get a shuttle to the hotel.

The dining room and bar in the hotel where very nice. On the North and South side of the hotel are several smaller cafes and restaurants. Lots of stores and shops around there. It is a convenient location.

The people were great!

Quite frankly when we won the auction we were handed a letter. In Carolina speak "We bought a pig in a poke." They could have given us anything. However, the hotel gave us the best they had to offer short of the "presidential suite". They treated us very well and we really enjoyed our stay.

You should check out the Renaissance in Charleston's Historic district if you are going to Charleston.

We've now been here several times over Christmas and Thanksgiving, and it is always a great stay. The place is nicely decorated for the holidays and has a cozy and charming feel for the holidays. The staff has ALWAYS been pleasant for our stays. The rooms are good and always very clean. I wouldn't takeaway chance staying elsewhere in Charleston with the good experiences we've had here.

Room Tip: We had end rooms each time which were very quiet

You ever been in a hotel where you have the creepy feeling you are being constant watched? Where the bartender is screaming and laughing so loud you cant hear your own voice or your wife's.
The front desk person has the personalty of a Homeland Security Officer? NO??
Man, I have a hotel for you: It's called "The Renaissance Charleston Hotel District". and due to me being still outraged that I left 50 cent at this so called hotel and I invite you to spend your own money and get the full experiencece from the "robots".

Room Tip: Stay at home or get another hotel!!!!

Our family of 3 spent Thanksgiving night and Black Friday at this hotel near the Historic District of Charleston. We were only 1/2 block from King Street, the main shopping street in Charleston, which was very convient for Black Friday. All the top stores as well as antique outlets were located here.
Another 1/2 block in the other direction was Meeting Street which contains and is near to many historical museums and buildings. We were also very near to Market St. with it's great shopping and the waterfront park on James River.
While there make sure you walk the entire length of Market Street to Battery Park. Many of the grand residences built from 1740 to 1800 are in this area. We didn't realize this till our last afternoon and would have liked to have spent more time there.
As for the hotel, the rooms were spacious, even for 3, with clean bathrooms and comfortable furniture. The service was very good, especially the doormen who provided great service and tips for the area and directions for leaving the city.
We plan to return in the near future!

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and could hear some noise from above. Maybe get a room on the 6th or top fl...

This small hotel is a great choice while visiting Charleston. It's located in the heart of the historic district, walking distance from everything. The hotel has updated decor, comfortable rooms, a nice dining room, lounge and bar area. The service was excellent, especially the concierge desk in planning our trip before and during our visit. All their recommendations were great. This hotel added to the wonderful vacation we enjoyed in Charleston!

We booked this hotel for a 1-year anniversary and birthday celebration, and we could not have been happier with the service, the quality of the room and the overall stay! The ladies at the front desk gave us a gift for our weekend celebration, which was unexpected and such a wonderful surprise - thank you! The room was spacious, water pressure in the shower was fantastic, and the location of the hotel was very convenient to the places you want to go in Charleston. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was delicous and SO filling. I forgot a charger for my BB phone, and they were even able to provide me with one to borrow! You will NOT be disappointed with your stay at this hotel!

Room Tip: Corner rooms were large, but they are near the elevator so if you want to sleep in, you might hear t...
