“Awesome Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

After beaching it for a week at Folly Beach, we wanted to finish our vacation with a few days in historical Charleston. The Springhill Suites Riverview is a hidden secret. We thought the hotel was beautiful, the suite was spacious. We enjoyed the transportation to and from downtown Charleston every night. The full breakfast was fantastic. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend and for family and friends.

We have stayed at multiple Springhill hotels in the east coast, as well as some Courtyards, but we always appreciate the difference between the two: nicer beds, more upscale, newer facilities, ... But this particular Springhill lack on several things I mentioned before. The mattresses were not as good, the towel quality or their condition were not as great. The room was not properly clean.
In respect of the breakfast area, it can get very crowded. Best advice is to get there early, otherwise you might have to wait for everything: a table, wait in line to get your coffee, wait in line again to toast a bagel, or wait until they replenish stuff, ufffff. You better might consider going to Mc Donald's which is one mile away.

My family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights for a quick getaway to Charleston. The hotel appeared clean - clean linens, clean bathroom, clean counters, but DIRTY floors. Thank goodness I thought to bring socks for my 3 year old little girl. They were black after she walked across the floor of the hotel about 3 times. Not sure if these carpets have ever been cleaned besides a quick vacuum between stays. Oh well, moving along...the room was spacious and I typically pick this chain b/c of the microwave/fridge/kitchenette. This is a nice feature when you have a small child. I do need to note that I ddi not enjoy the window unit air conditioner. It was very sticky/humid in the room at all times and the a/c blew directly on us in the bed b/c the bed was so close to the window. This made for an unpleasant night's rest. It is loud and it left me all stuffy the next morning. Can't remember if Courtyard Riverview has this type of a/c but would almost forfeit the free breakfast at Springhill just to get our of the sticky a/c in this room. On to breakfast, they had muffins, juices, bagels, cereal, yogurt, eggs, sausage. Pretty good variety and all pretty tasty for a continental style breakfast. Overall, we had a nice stay but would not consider staying here for more than one or two nights.

My wife is a travel agent and a Marriott specialist, so we stay at many of their establishments. This Springhill Suites was definitely not up to the Marriott average, which we would say is above average for hotels/motels. The location is good for visiting downtown Charleston, or if you've got a boat in the nearby marina. However, there really was nothing to set this motel apart from the herd. Check-in experience was blah, with front desk staff who were indifferent, wore no name tags and didn't welcome us. The room was ok, although it felt, well, sweaty and grubby, not fresh and clean. The toilet seat had been sprayed with an oily cleaner, then not wiped off, so the first person who sat down practically got glued to it. That was nasty! The hinge on the seat/lid was rusty or something, so it made a loud gronking noise as it was raised or lowered. That's inconvenient in the night. It didn't do much for our attitude when a front-desk person let herself into our room without knocking a few minutes after we arrived, then left without apologizing! That was an off-putting experience, to say the least! The light-blocking curtain was pulled loose from the long rods for opening and closing, so we had to use the clips on a pant-hanger to keep the curtains together at night to darken the room.
Wouldn't stay at this hotel again. There are many other choices in Charleston, and we would exercise that option.

Room Tip: Ask for the side away from the marina

Have stayed at this hotel 3 times over past 6 months. Always pleasant staff; very convenient to downtown Charleston but without the high price of downtown hotels; clean rooms; quiet; extremely comfortable. Excellent value when visiting Charleston, SC. Highly recommended.

While not the fanciest of places to stay in Charleston, the rooms were relatively nice and the location just off downtown made it easy to get anywhere fairly quickly. They offer shuttle service and have a small outdoor pool area that was good for having a little kid. Staff was exceptional.

This hotel is just outstanding. Everything, and I mean everything went right. The room is spacious and there is plenty of drawer space, not to mention 2 TVs, and the perfectly designed kitchenette and work area. What really impressed us was how clean everything is and the outstanding level of service. Everything is done with a smile and promptly. As an example, I needed some help with an order we received while traveling. No problem to make a copy of a 3 page document, and at no charge. I needed some tape. No problem here either. My wife became ill and I needed a 24 hour pharmacy. No problem. Out came the direcions to the Walgreens which did not show on my GPS. Bravo Springhill for an outstanding effort
