This was a real find. Michael was absolutely excellent. His knowledge of history, architecture, and French was outstanding. When we would return later to places Michael pointed out, his details would come back to us. It was much better than reading about it and then trying to match up the material. We got inside the Dock Street Theatre which was fantastic. We also got to see the insides of two churches which were quite different. Michael kept telling us how the various buildings and streets had changed throughout the years. He is a native and his family dates back seven generations so his information is authentic.
My suggestion is to take this tour first upon arriving in Charleston. It will give you an overview that will help the rest of your time in Charleston. We reserved our spot months in advance. I do not know if this is necessary but I can see that his tours could book up quickly because they are that good. All along the tour Michael kept running into people from all walks of life that he knew. We felt his Southern hospitality.
The two hours flew by. The walk was not a challenging one but Michael does expect you to keep up with him which was not a problem. He is very organized. You will not regret signing up for his tour.
