Owner description: Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Mill Pond in the spring.

“Great place for families”

Great place to let little ones run around on the grounds after tours. Beautiful place and gardens. I will probably stop by again next time visiting Charleston.

“Our first plantation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Decided to spend a day doing plantations. Middleton was first and even though the main house was gone the grounds and remaining buildings did not disappoint. Must see the Belgians!!!! Our carriage guide was great. Saw our first "free range" gator. Even if you are not a "tree hugger" the beauty of the oaks is overwhelming. The best of our day all around!

“Wow amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

While we were a little surprised at the price ($55 a person to do carriage ride and house tour+admission) we were glad we did. The carriage ride was amazing. Relaxing and so much info on the history of the area and the plantation. House tour was also great. Don't miss the stables, especially if you love animals the restaurant served great food too. we will come back despite the price

“Expected more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

The grounds of Middleton Place were very beautiful. I was a little disappointed because I heard so much about the house tour and the carriage tour so we paid the extra money to do each of them and they unimpressive the house tour especially was Nothing special. It could have been the tour guide we had, she really didn't explain anything. She pointed out this or that and then asked if we had any questions. The carriage ride was informative but not much to look at. I gave it four stars because the lunch at the restaurant was amazing!

What a beautiful day! Take the carriage tour (ask for Brittany) and take in all the spectacular beauty. Hidden treasures, beautiful gardens. Can't wait to go back!!
