“Great staff but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

My wife and stayed at the Planters Inn for 2 nights. The first night wer were in room 107, which faces the street. At 5 am a service truck parked directly outside the window and for one hour unloaded supplies and created load noise. We were kept awake for over an hour. The front desk did not seem surprised, as this seems to be an issue with this room The staff was very kind and apologetic and ultimately switched our room to the second floor or the second night of our stay. However, the hotel should warn guests of this issue if they rent this room or should offer this room at a deeply discounted rate. The property is great and the front desk staff extremely accommodating. Nonetheless, the primary function of hotel is for sleep and this was a problem.

Room Tip: stay away from room 107 which faces the street

Dear highendfun,

We have reached out to the city regarding the abnormally early noise derived from your recent restless morning. As you mentioned, we were happy to promptly address your concerns and find an alternate room for your second evening. In our urban setting, in the heart of Charleston’s historic district, we benefit from the best location to experience all the city has to offer. We take our location in consideration and take great strides to soundproof our guest rooms in order to provide our guests with the a comfortable, calm and peaceful setting.

Thank you for your comments and we are pleased to hear you appreciated our efforts to make you more comfortable.

Kind regards,

Nick Saltmarsh

We had room 305 a corner room, very spacious & quiet..well kept property. Little things like beverages & goodies in the lounge, loved the cheese crackers! minor housekeeping issues..nothing to spoil our stay. VERY VERY helpful staff...front desk & bell staff..
We opted for the dinner package/breakfast package...don't bother...we had 4 breakfasts there and were very disappointed with the poor quality of the food, eggs benedict were tasteless, basic scrambled eggs were watery...shrimp & grits awful...the dinner experience was excellent..our waiter Patrick was the best, food delicious...what a contrast to morning service. We would return but perhaps go out for breakfast....

The Planters Inn is one of two five- star hotels in Charleston that satisfies the lodger who likes things on a smaller, more intimate scale. We spent two nights at each and I will review the Charleston Place Hotel in a separate review.

The Planter's Inn has everything you could ask for:
Attentive service
Spacious rooms with every amenity (except a refrigerator)
Wonderful bath products
Top of the line restaurant (The Peninsula Grill)
Perfect location across from the market and at the center of everything

This hotel is part of the distinguished European Relais Chateau chain and does not disappoint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from Market Street to avoid any street noise. An inside room is best as there i...

Wonderful hotel which captures the essence of old southern charm, warmth and friendly service. Spacious rooms and baths, beautiful appointments and a comfortable bed. This was our first visit to Charleston. Next time we visit, we will definitely return to the Planters Inn.

This is a lovely, first class hotel with the most helpful, courteous staff. Our room was very pretty and clean. The bed was comfortable. And the bathroom was spacious, until you went looking for the tub/shower. It was tucked behind a wall that covered the first part of the tub so that you had to get into the tub to turn on the water (and get soaked with cold water) or reach all the way in to turn on the water (only worked if you have long arms). I would ask to see the bathroom before I accepted a room. Otherwise we loved it there. The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything a tourist would want to see.

Dear Fran B.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences and complimenting our “helpful and courteous staff" as well as recognizing our “very pretty and clean rooms”. We are proud to offer a vast array of room choices and categories within our 64 room property. One of the greatest appeals to staying in our circa 1844 Relais & Chateaux property is the character and charm of our individual guest rooms. Unlike many properties, each of our rooms offers a unique layout which our repeat guests find most appealing when returning. Should your travels find you returning to our beautiful city, please allow us to assist in finding you the perfect room at the Planters Inn.
Kind Regards,
Bradley Dickerson, Hotel Manager

The location is perfect for experiencing downtown Charleston but the accommodations as well as the service were top flight. Will make this our stop in the future. A special thanks to Roger who fixed an electrical problem we had. Not only did it get fixed but the whole experience was a real plus. You don't expect the pleasant disposition and over the top helpfulness from the maintenance department !

Dear Bob Beunting,
It is with great pleasure that we share your comments with our Chief Engineer, Roger and his team of dedicated maintenance technicians. The Planters Inn staff routinely is recognized by our guests for superior service from our desk and concierge, bell and valet, and housekeeping and evening turndown members. Your compliments of the maintenance team’s response, prompt resolution, and overall “disposition” is very much appreciated. Our circa 1844 property requires a dedicated crew to maintain this old grand hotel and we are proud to work alongside Roger and has crew to provide the service our guests expect and deserve.
On behalf of the entire team, we wish you well and look forward to assisting you on your next visit to Planters Inn!

We stayed in room 310 on the market in the piazza and were delighted with the quiet, considering we were downtown. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent breakfast - spotless room - they have thought of everything. What a treat!

Dear Pedro L.,
Thank you for taking a moment to share your experience. Our Deluxe King rooms on the historic City Market offer a peak into the heart and soul of Charleston just outside your window. The shared piazza this fall season offers a superb location to relax and enjoy a beverage or afternoon read overlooking the courtyard.
