“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The Planter's Inn is expensive and offers only smaller rooms. Even the penthouse suite, which we had, was disappointing in size. But the hotel wins good marks for decor and for location. Many antiques. As for walking, its the only means of transport you'll need. You'll be smack dab in the center of shops and restaurants. But if the price here is too steep for your wallet, and you want to be just as centralized, try the nearby Double Tree, however we didn't look inside.

Room Tip: Only parking is by valet.

Dear Rchard PB B,
We respect your appreciation of our location and location. As a historic 1844 property we are known to offer some to the most spacious and beautifully appointed guest rooms in the city. We offer guests a vast array of options and unique character that is second to none in the city. Our Penthouse King offers a spacious sitting area and bedroom, but additionally includes one of city’s only private outdoor terrace decks from the top floor of our centrally located property. Should you desire a larger internal square footage for your next visit, we suggest the Governors Suite for your consideration. A spacious 600 square foot suite that offers a full living room and gas fireplace and separate bedroom and bathroom. Please call on us to discuss our other various options should you elect to try us again as we are sure to find a choice that suits your needs and preferences.
Best Wishes,
Bradley Dickerson

“Very Comfortable, Very Expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The location is perfect for touring the historic district by foot or carriage. A wide varierty of fine restaurants and shops are also near at hand, with an excellent restaurant in the hotel. The turn-down service sometimes leaves something to be desired, but otherwise, the staff is courteous and efficient. The rooms are conservatively but well appointed, including the public rooms. The feel of the property is that of a retreat from the bustle on the street and in the adjacent market.

“Beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of Charleston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013 via mobile

Perfect location for staying in downtown Charleston; you can walk to everything. From the attentive staff to the details of the room, The Planters Inn is full of charm. It offers what you would expect from a Relais and Chateau hotel. The main building is a bit old but has been updated, the rooms are unique and occasionally an odd shape; I have stayed here many times for business. There is a newer section that is more "expected" and boasts bigger bathrooms. I usually go with the charm of the historic rooms, but it's a personal taste situation. It is a bit pricey to stay here but it is very nice!

Dear La1268,
Thank you for your recent review of our property and recognition of our attentive staff and superb location We are pleased to hear you point out it is “what you would expect from a Relais and Chateaux hotel”. As South Carolina’s only member, we are very proud our Relais affiliation as one the premier properties of the world. Our Deluxe King rooms you reference over the piazza courtyard are a favorite to many. For an even larger room and sitting area you may consider the spacious Plantation King in the 1844 building for your next trip. We appreciate your time and we look forward to assisting you on your next visit.

“Fabulous Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Perfectly situated at the beginning of the Market area, and well within walking distance to most of downtown Charleston. My wife and I had a lovely time and the staff was very friendly. The staff is very friendly and knows all the best restaurants around. Found it delightful that one of the staff spoke fluent French, which was an unexpected surprise.

“Great Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at the Planters Inn. We were treated like a royalty by the staff. Wonderful! The hotel lobby is old-world Southern charm to a T. Rooms are clean, yet not uxurious (but this may be because we had a room in the building across the way.) It was super fun to know that we just missed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds on our visit. Tea, coffee and drinks served throughout the day in the stunning lobby. A special place

Room Tip: Find out if rooms above lobby are of a different quality.
