“Location, Location, Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Just back from 3 nights stay here. We got a sweet deal on a Petite Suite thru SniqueAway. Quaint inn, friendly staff, reasonably priced self parking just behind the inn and, most important, located in the middle of great shopping and restaurants. Ideal for walking to any downtown location. Would consider this place in a heart beat next time. Also, late afternoon complimentary wine and cheese just next door at sister location. Thanks for the friendly service, Corey! Good luck with the PT.

“Fulton Lane Inn Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

This was a good place to stay for the money we paid. It is not as fancy as a B&B for double the price, but clean & well located. The staff was great-lots of help in suggesting dinner places & making reservations for us. The wine hour was very nice. They have several foods along with the wine-great pimento cheese, and the company of the other guests was nice. We had the regular breakfast that came with the room, and it was fine. They will cook you a hot one that is not very expensive, but after the great dinners that are easy to walk to we decided to go light. A parking lot right behind the Inn is a plus for the price in Charleston. We did enjoy a bike/mini cab ride around the Battery after dinner one night & loved that. The dinner they suggest at Circa 1886 was worth the price. Great staff & location!

“Suite, No. Sweet, Yes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Suite, No. Sweet, Yes.

Walk 20 steps up a narrow brick alley off King Street, in the center of Charleston's bustling upscale shopping district. On the left, you will spot the unassuming door to the Fulton Lane Inn. Inside, at a desk in the foyer, an attendant checks you in. Inexplicably, she upgraded us to a suite. We would be charged $159 for the first night and $139, encompassing Christmas, for each of the next three—prices marginally above the average for the stucco palaces lining Interstates 26 and 95 leading into the city. She handed us two solid brass keys, which could have dated to the Civil War, and dispatched us to the elevator behind her.
The hotel's 45 rooms are scattered off a maze of narrow corridors on the second and third floors. We stopped at the heavy solid wood door with an oval, no doubt hand-hammered, polished brass plaque of No. 338. This was no suite, if a suite is two or more rooms, and a room chart showed it to be roughly similar in size to most other rooms. But however jaundiced we might be about hotels and their pretenses, No. 338 fills any definition of sweet.
The ceiling was 12 or 14 feet high. In the closet were two terrycloth bathrobes In the bathroom: a Jacuzzi and separate shower. On the counter: various amenities, including a towel to remove make-up, and two glasses--cut-glass glasses, not plastic. In the bedroom: a working gas fireplace. The top drawer of a century-old walnut dresser folded down to form a stand-up desk. On top stood a wide, flat-screen television--one of three, wiith the bedside clock and telephone, concessions to the digital age. Sets of tall, wide windows framed in fine woven fabrics overlooked King Street. One set enclosed an alcove extending far enough over the street to accommodate a three-footed tea table for breakfast and two Louis XVI armchairs.
The room wouldn't suit a restless business traveler or families with young children. There's no microwave, refrigerator or swimming pool. But it has a sofa and three or four other places to nestle with a book or watch television. We would have liked a better firmer bedding. The mattress was soft, and the pillows seemed made of foam with the weight and consistency of marshmallows. The inn does not have a dining room, no loss with many of Charleston's restaurants right out the door. It does offer room-service breakfast—free for continental—or you can go to the adjoining, quite similar Kings Courtyard Inn one door up the alley. There you can have breakfast outside in the enclosed courtyard when weather permits or in an adjacent room inside. But get there early or late because it has only five tables.

Room Tip: Ask to see a room or two before taking one. The rooms vary a lot in their views, decor and lay-out...

“Perfect place to stay in Charleston!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

This is a charming little hotel, in the heart of downtown. Our room was large and very nice, with a giant canopy bed, that was really comfortable. Although we were on the third floor, we did not have a good view, as others have mentioned. The young woman conceriage was so friendly and helpful, that I really enjoyed talking to her each day. The little things that this hotel provides really set it apart. I especially enjoyed that the free continental breakfast is delivered to your room each morning. The free wine and cheese in the late afternoon, and the sherry at night, were all above and beyond most hotels. True southern hospitality. This hotel has the best location in Charleston. It is in the heart of downtown, and although we had a car, we walked almost everywhere. The only negative thing I noticed was that the bathroom needed to be updated. Although we had a whirlpool tub, the rest of the room was a little worn. The rusty shower rod, although just a small detail, contributed to the tired appearance. I would definately recommend this hotel to others, and hope to stay there again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A romantic hideaway in America’s most enchanting city, The Fulton Lane Inn is private, intimate and exceptionally accommodating. The Fulton Lane Inn surrounds you with the comfort and gracious ambiance of a bygone era. Many of our spacious rooms feature oversized whirlpool baths and luxurious canopied beds, draped with hand strung netting. Other rooms boast cathedral ceilings and several offer fireplaces.Throughout, soaring windows frame captivating vistas of the city's historic skyline, punctuated with the many trademark church spires. The charm and spirit of the Old South live on in this historic inn, built by the family of Confederate blockade runner John Rugheimer. Regarded as the most sophisticated city in America, antebellum Charleston was the cradle of Southern gentility. The proper Charleston home then welcomed summer's casual pace by covering formal furnishings in airy muslin, replacing wool carpets with sisal, and positioning shutters to admit fresh breezes and to provide gentle shade. At the Fulton Lane Inn, that spirit has been beautifully recaptured. Here, light filters softly through louvered shades, casting an inviting glow on lush plants. The patina of fine woods, natural textures and soft pastels invite you to indulge in the simple pleasures of a more gracious time. During your stay, you'll be pampered with complimentary continental breakfast delivered to your room each morning. Our traditional Southern hospitality continues with sherry in the lobby each evening. Of course, our concierge is always at hand to attend to your every need. You're just a mere stroll from the famous harbor, historic homes and attractions. The Fulton Lane Inn is situated just off King Street, tucked away on a pedestrian lane in the heart of the city's famous historic district. The inn is literally surrounded by countless fascinating boutiques, scores of antique shops and elegant restaurants. There are countless ways to enjoy the Fulton Lane Inn. ... more   less
