Owner description: There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks. Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST). ~Look for the Red Sash~ Our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina.

“Informative Tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Because of the Tour Lottery system the City operates, you don't know where your tour is going to go until you're on the carriage. We got Tour #3, which goes along the Ashley River and takes about an hour. Thank goodness they had a blanket on each seat as it was cold and windy along the river. Our guide was good - very informative but not a ball of fire; maybe you'll get a more entertaining driver as we saw several in the stable and around the parking area where all the Carriage Tour companies start.
Keep your eye open at your hotel or anywhere they have the little Tourist Things To Do racks - we got a $3 off per person voucher, which brought the tour down to $19 per adult.

“BEST Carriage Tour Company in Charleston!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

I took my younger sister to tour Charleston for the first time at Old South Carriage Co. We had a fantastic experience! We couldn't stop smiling the whole time... When we arrived at the barn, the tour guides and staff greeted us with smiles in their traditional confederate uniforms. If you are looking for the most authentic historic Horse-Drawn carriage tour, you have to ride with Old South! The tour was fun and informational. It's the best way to learn history and see the city...

As a horse person, we made sure to check up on the care of the horses. The horses even vacation at a 65 acre plantation when they are on break from their duty downtown! The horse's get the best care and love their job. *Highly Recommended* activity for anyone in Charleston!

“Enjoyable & Entertaining Ride”

Our guide was very well versed on the area and did a great job of explaining the history and cultural landscape of the area as we toured historic downtown Charleston and the Battery Front.

“Thank goodness for GROUPON! Not worth full value at all!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

The good: Arrived at noon and was promptly scheduled for a 12:45pm departure. The carriage boarded at 12:40pm and departed promptly at 12:45pm. Our GROUPON certificate was accepted without problem.

The bad: Our guide was Mike. He lacked humor, energy, and any sort of passion for Charleston. His knowledge of the city and its vast, wonderful history was deplorable. He routinely pointed out the same species of trees as if this was significant Holy City information. He pointed down streets and commented on sites 5-6 blocks away, which of course we couldn't possibly see. His proudest moment was commenting on the location of Bill Murray's home, which by the way, he got wrong. I live in CHS and know Bill; this wasn't his house.

Verdict: I do not recommend this tour. Fortunately, I did not pay full price due to GROUPON. I live in CHS and was checking this out as an activity for visiting guests. I will definitely scratch this off of my list!

“Great way to see a beautiful city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We took a carriage tour yesterday in Charleston. It proved to be a great way to see parts of the city and learn some of e history of the area. We got discounted tickets at the visitor center and it was only $17.50 per ticket. The carriage was comfortable, and the driver was very entertaining and knowledgeable.
