“Long Weekend in Charleston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Great 3-day stay at the Wentworth Mansion in Charleston. The hotel is close enough to the attractions that are a 1/2 mile south at the Battery or 5-6 blocks east on Kings street to make an easy walk, but far enough away that you are surrounded by a quiet residential neighborhood away from the commotion typical for the hotels that are closer to the market. The room we had was well appointed and the bathroom was generous. The hotel has the feel of an old English bed and breakfast. The breakfast in the old carriage house is not to be missed. The staff was attentive but not omnipresent. Secure parking at the hotel is a plus. The concierge did a great job arranging dinner reservations on a busy holiday weekend. We tried several newer restaurants on N. Kings including The Ordinary, Grocery, Rarebit and Macintosh all of which we would recommend. These restaurants seem to attract a slightly younger crowd and are an easy pedi-cab trip from the hotel. The cupola that can be accessed from the 4th floor is a great spot for viewing fireworks. We look forward to a return trip.

The hotel is gorgeous!! The stained glass, the light fixtures, the woodwork....it goes on and on. Absolutely beautiful. Then, the service....to die for. From Aly to Will to Nolan and Jennifer and Betty and Tim...each went out of his/her way to make the stay spectacular.

We had a Mansion Room - loved the space. I did hear that the other rooms are very nice - and each has a story to it. I liked the location of our room (2nd floor). So, we really didn't have a lot of outside noise. The tub is great - and how wonderful that they provide bath salts for the tub. The robes and all the other little nice touches are greatly appreciated. And, don't miss the exceptional breakfasts each morning.....yummy!!

I already told hubby I'd like to return for our anniversary.

This was a wonderful hotel! Very charming and GREAT service. The restaurant is also very good for breakfast and dinner. If we go back to Charleston this is the only place I would consider staying. It is a bit noisy when others walk by your room, however there are only a few rooms on each floor so it doesn't happen often.

Room Tip: I believe our room was 4-21. The only negative was there were 2 AC vents one dripped condensation on...

I have been visiting Charleston for decades. Wentworth Mansion is simply the best, most friendly place to stay. Casual, yet elegant. It's like staying in a museum that feels like home. The staff cannot be more accommodating and friendly. Location is perfect, away from all the city noise, yet within easy walking distance to shopping and plenty of dining. Cannot even count the number of stays here, but never disappointed, just never! Treat yourself to this historic mansion, you will love it..

Room Tip: Suite 9 is my personal favorite...but call Noreen, the innkeeper, and she will help you select based...

No visit to Charleston would be complete with a stay at the Wentworth Mansion. It was totally bliss from the moment we drove up -service was impeccable!!! the staff is great, kind & warm. the rooms are lovely, spacious, luxurious and all the windows had shutters - felt a-little like home. We had a suite with a sun room, it too was refreshing. We were also greeted with refreshments that was most needed as the weather was a bit hot. The location was within walking distant of all the great things we wanted to experience. we especially lie the well stocked free amenities. the county breakfast was a pleasant treat, and in the afternoon their i refreshments and cocktails for all to enjoy (great appetizers). After dinner at Halls steakhouse(a must try) we caught the last Sunset on the roof via the spiral staircase in the cupola this too is a must, very romantic. The property has great gardens and landscape with special areas to stop and sit a bit. Great staff, great room great amenities. Will not stay anywhere else in Charleston except Wentworth Mansion, it's a must, try a visit for sure you will love it. Oh its dog Friendly and our shiba Inu Navy enjoyed it just as much .

Room Tip: Any of the suites are well worth the stay they are all large and bright and well furnished.

Staying at the Wentworth Mansion is a must, must, must if you plan on visiting Charleston SC. From the moment we were greeted at the door by the concierge to the moment we checked out we were treated like royalty. We arrived early (10:30 AM) and our room was not yet ready, something we expected. The staff handled our early arrival with no problems. We were given refreshments and a brief tour of the property. We opted for a walk around the historic district of Charleston and returned to be taken to room 18 on the fourth floor. (The elevator is quite an experience, tiny and slow, but gets the job done). Room 18 - the old billiard room is enormous. The extreme luxury and size of the room was stunning. A bed fit for kings and queens, gas fireplace, large sitting area, and three windows looking out over Charleston. The bathroom existed of a very large jetted tub on one side and a multi-headed shower big enough to dance in on the other. Shuttered windows allowed the natural light to shine in making the entire bathroom area very warm and sunny. Hidden discreetly at bedside was a small refrigerator filled with coke, sprite and bottle water. These beverages were offered at no charge and restocked daily. Also offered at no charge was daily full breakfast at Circa 1886 restaurant, iced tea and lemonade in the afternoon, wine and yummy appetizers(real appetizers not just cheese and crackers) from 5:00 to 6:00 PM., and port, sherry and cognac left out for your enjoyment in the evenings. Housekeeping was perfect, nothing was out of order, everything was clean and tidy. We enjoyed dinner at Circa 1886, the playful chef here had great offerings on the menu. And at breakfast Miss Betty sung to me every morning. (A trip to breakfast at Circa 1886 is worth it just to meet Miss Betty, she is a true southern gem.) Sunset on the roof via the spiral staircase in the cupola is a must, very romantic. The property has well kept gardens with areas to stop and sit a bit. Great staff, great room great amenities. Could not fathom staying anywhere else in Charleston. Thanks Wentworth, you are spectacular!

Room Tip: If you want spacious and comfortable and are not afraid of small elevators, room 18 is wonderful!

A very lovely old home built in 1886. The rooms are large and comfortable. The property needs some T.L.C. but overall it is in good shape. Room service is not readily available, but the room comes stocked with soda and water; however the beverage refrigerator was not restocked on my second day.

Thank you for taking the time to review your Wentworth Mansion experience. I am thrilled that you had such a fantastic stay. As you noted, we work diligently to keep our historic hotel in top shape with fresh paint, refurbished furniture and other ongoing maintenance projects. I am sorry to read that your in-room refrigerator was not stocked for your second day. This is not our standard and we have addressed the issue. I also apologize that it was not communicated to you that room service is indeed available for breakfast and dinner. Your feedback is appreciated as we strive to deliver a five-start experience in every area.
