“Charming hotel with a few drawbacks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

This is a very friendly, cozy hotel in a central location in Charleston. It is well decorated and comfortable but could be better if 1) the bathrooms were bigger. The one in our room was small with one little sink, and 2) they provided premium cable service and movies on demand which even Holiday Inns have. Also 3) parts of the room were not well cleaned and we had to ask for housekeeping to take care of the overlooked areas.

The concierege and front desk people were helpful and kind. The bed was comfortable and the reakfast was good too. Overall a pleasant experience with a few disatisfactions

Thank you for sharing your experience here at the Vendue Inn and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
I am mostly pleased you enjoyed our helpful & kind staff, our made to order breakfasts and our plush bedding. We hope you also had the opportunity to enjoy the afternoon manager’s reception with wine & hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beach cruisers and our evening cookies & milk.
We view guest comments as opportunities to better serve our guest’s needs and we will take your suggestions for cable into consideration. Also, I while our standard queen rooms are modest in size, they are comparable to other historic hotels in Charleston. In the future, please consider our junior suites with large soaking tubs and separate showers for a more expansive bathroom.
Again, Thank you for your comments and we look forward to the opportunity to see you in the future.

Visited for one night in Sept for our 25th anniversary trip. Had a "basic" room. Wow. Really nice. Perfectly appointed. Fantastic location. Relaxed for hours at the rooftop bar. Tremendous view. Excellent customer service from the staff.

Charleston SC is a great city - highly recommended. The Vendue Inn is quaint, room was not as nice as I thought it would be. Bathroom nothing special. Location was great and the staff was very helpfull.

One thing that bothered us was poor selection on the TV. No pay per view movies and limited selection of channels. No big deal but after a day of walking, dinner and a few stops a night spots we were looking forward to lounging around in the AM or late night and watch tv, as at home we get very little "down time".

One other thing - we had to call twice for toliet paper, not sure why there was none left in the room when the maid did the room, seemed very strange.

All in all nice place, but could be nicer, especially for the price.

We appreciate taking the time to review your stay and we are pleased you mostly enjoyed the Vendue Inn and Charleston.
We view all comments, whether critical or laudatory, as opportunities to better serve our guest’s needs and we will take your suggestions for cable into consideration.
I do apologize for your two requests for a basic need and will further investigate, but this lapse of service is regrettable.
Again, thank you for your thoughts and I do hope that we have the opportunity to have you stay with us again in the near future.

The Vendue Inn is a wonderful place to stay when you're visiting Charleston SC. The staff is laser focused on terrific customer service. The location is in walking distance all that Charleston has to offer. I highly recommend the Vendue Inn.

Room Tip: Our first floor room was very comfortable with a fireplace.

Our third stay at the Vendue Inn proved to be an exceptional experience. The staff was friendly and exceptionally helpful. We had a lovely king room with a fireplace that was a perfect touch for a January visit to Charleston. The Inn, while retaining all of it';s historic charm was efficient and in great working order. We've recommended the Vendue Inn to several couples that have stayed there and our recommendations will continue to all visiting the Charleston area.

Room Tip: The king suite with the fireplace is a wonderful room.

Great central, near-water location in historic district. Friendly welcoming party of desk clerk and valet. Stayed in building across street, in a 3rd floor walk-up room, which we were told was the "crow's nest" and an upgrade because of privacy. But, our first impressions were negative: we noticed the dingy carpet on stairs, and room was very dark due to the deeply stained beam ceiling; it took awhile to find the lights, which did improve the atmosphere.

The high, comfortable king 4-poster bed was nice. Gas fireplace was pleasant to have at holiday time. There was a large-screen tv above the fireplace, but only one chair, which meant the bed was the best place to watch it (which we didn't do much, because we were in beautiful Charleston after all). Also, the chair was fabric-covered, rather than washable, which is creepy. The bathroom was fairly small with a shower, sink, toilet, but no counter. There were, small shelves above the toilet but the towel racks were very; inadequate. The bathroom/room were very clean.

We had three nice breakfasts in various small dining rooms. This hotel was fairly pricey and was a more worn-out, dated, less luxurious place than presented on the website, but worked okay, given it was Christmas. There is metered parking, but it requires constant checking and moving the car, so we parked in a nearby garage @ $14/day, and left the rental car there for 3 days (in retrospect a $250 cost that perhaps we could have avoided with a great deal of effort by turning in the car, getting a taxi, etc.) Suffice to say, this is a walking city that we thoroughly enjoyed and found no need for our car.

Thank you for sharing your pleasant experience at The Vendue Inn.

To provide some background to the hotel, the property is comprised of eight historic buildings, six on the south side of Vendue Range and two on the north side. Originally, all of these buildings were involved in the import & export business for the historic port of Charleston.

Therefore, we are not a modern cookie cutter building and each room is unique in size and style including your room with the exposed brickwork and beams.

I am pleased that you enjoyed our made to order breakfasts each morning ,our comfortable bedding each evening. and you were able to explore our wonderful city from our doorstep.
We look forward to your next visit.

Our trip was a short stay en route. The hotel was centrally located and easy to find. The room was recently renovated, large and very nice without a complaint other than the floor slanted, presumably an issue due to settling of the old building. The service as mentioned by other reviewers was exceptional. Also appreciated were the breakfasts, which were superb, and the managers reception. The price of the room was reasonable for a upscale hotel. The taxes in the city and hotel are unusually high and at some point will hinder the choice to visit the city.
