I have family members who are Bluegreen owners. I traveled with them to Charleston for a stay at the Lodge Alley Inn. First of all, the location couldn't be better. It's right in the middle of Charleston's historic district. Waterfront Park is about a block away to the east. The open air Market is a block away to the north. So many sights and historic landmarks are within easy walking distance. If you go, you WILL want to use the valet parking ($6/day as of this writing). We gave our car to the valet when we arrived, and we didn't use it again for the entire week.

The rooms at LAI were clean and comfortable. The staff are professional and extremely accommodating. Everyone, from front desk to valet, bellman, maintenance, housekeeping, all were friendly and made sure our every need was taken care of. Sherry and cookies are served in the lobby every afternoon at 4:00. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know other guests from other places. You can also pick up a lot of tips about things to do in Charleston, as well as restaurant recommendations. The lovely courtyard is another great place to meet and relax with new friends.

As someone in another review pointed out, this is technically not a hotel. As is the case at most all Bluegreen resorts, you don't have a room here...you have a fully furnished and equipped apartment. Cable-connected televisions are in the living rooms and bedrooms. My biggest complaint with the LAI is the lack of free high-speed Internet service. They do offer paid broadband service ($6.95/day via Wayport as of this writing). A computer is available in the lobby for guests to use. The LAI staff is very relaxed and laid back, but I'm sure they would prefer that I not go strolling into the lobby in my boxers and slippers to use the computer there. Come on, folks, even the Holiday Inn Express and Motel 6 offer free broadband these days.

If you're planning a trip to Charleston, you should consider the Lodge Alley Inn. It's unique, comfortable and perfectly located.

I was a little hesitant after reading some of the bad reviews, didn't know what I was getting into. I was very pleased. I actually stayed in 3 different rooms while there. No fault of the Lodge. The people were extremely nice. Each room we stayed in was clean. The decor was antique and very charming. My husband and I took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and the overall trip was GREAT!!!!. The Lodge is on Bay street and the younger crowd are out at night partying til late hours. I could hear them but it didn't keep us from sleeping. The Lodge is surronded with nice restaurants and bars that serve good food.

Part of the Bluegreen Vacation Club, this historic facility used to be a cotton warehouse. All rooms are full apartments, with completely stocked kitchens; all you bring is the food. Beautiful decor, comfortable, 2 tv's, dvd and vcr. Great water pressure. Only one washer/dryer combo for the entire complex, tho. Beautiful courtyard, concierge with discount tickets, free coffee all day, free newspaper daily, free sherry and cookies in the afternoon. Great location in the middle of historic downtown; walking distance to almost everything. If you aren't a Bluegreen owner, can be very pricey.

MMy Friends parents own Bluegreen points and gave us the points to take a vacation. Charleston is a great vacation for families and young married couples alike. My wife and I went with our friends who have two young kids. We had a two bedroom and 1.5 baths with full kitchen. It was in great shape. I would recommend this Inn to anyone!!

My wife and I are Bluegreen owners like others who have left reviews. This was our first use of our timeshare and we weren't disappointed.

The downtown location was difficult to navigate when we arrived at 10:00 in the evening on a Friday. A lot of nightlife activity and not knowing the area made driving slow so travelers need to get there as early as possible. We double parked while checking in, but that went quickly so we avoided a ticket. The front desk staff was very courteous and we told them we didn't want any phone calls to buy more points. A sales rep was leaving for the evening and I made it a point to let her know that I knew how the program worked and not to call my room. I only received one call during our three night stay, but never answered the phone and ignored the note left on the door about discount coupons (sales ploy).

When we walked into the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the room's decor. We had a separate living room with a wet bar (not supplied though), large bathroom with a large tiled shower/tub combination. The bedroom had a kingsize four posted bed that was very comfortable.

The next morning, a bellman pointed me towards a bakery for breakfast and gave a few suggestions for dinner, but he said that there was a large variety of restaurants and to walk the area instead of driving. This was helpful. We walked to different restaurants each night and to the downtown market, bay area and did a lot of sight seeing (we'll take a ghost walk next time).

I've added a photo of our room's front door, which is the first room on the left on the second floor. I think the room number was 261. You can view the various room layouts at the Bluegreen website.

We didn't have problems with waterbugs as others have posted, but we thought that the cleaning crew could have done a better job. Some of the baseboards needed cleaning, the bathroom door had smudges from fingers and a wall patch under the sink was second rate. Dust had also accumulated in a couple of corners in the living room.

Overall, we enjoyed the Inn and look forward to staying there again.
