Part of the Bluegreen Vacation Club, this historic facility used to be a cotton warehouse. All rooms are full apartments, with completely stocked kitchens; all you bring is the food. Beautiful decor, comfortable, 2 tv's, dvd and vcr. Great water pressure. Only one washer/dryer combo for the entire complex, tho. Beautiful courtyard, concierge with discount tickets, free coffee all day, free newspaper daily, free sherry and cookies in the afternoon. Great location in the middle of historic downtown; walking distance to almost everything. If you aren't a Bluegreen owner, can be very pricey.

MMy Friends parents own Bluegreen points and gave us the points to take a vacation. Charleston is a great vacation for families and young married couples alike. My wife and I went with our friends who have two young kids. We had a two bedroom and 1.5 baths with full kitchen. It was in great shape. I would recommend this Inn to anyone!!

My wife and I are Bluegreen owners like others who have left reviews. This was our first use of our timeshare and we weren't disappointed.

The downtown location was difficult to navigate when we arrived at 10:00 in the evening on a Friday. A lot of nightlife activity and not knowing the area made driving slow so travelers need to get there as early as possible. We double parked while checking in, but that went quickly so we avoided a ticket. The front desk staff was very courteous and we told them we didn't want any phone calls to buy more points. A sales rep was leaving for the evening and I made it a point to let her know that I knew how the program worked and not to call my room. I only received one call during our three night stay, but never answered the phone and ignored the note left on the door about discount coupons (sales ploy).

When we walked into the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the room's decor. We had a separate living room with a wet bar (not supplied though), large bathroom with a large tiled shower/tub combination. The bedroom had a kingsize four posted bed that was very comfortable.

The next morning, a bellman pointed me towards a bakery for breakfast and gave a few suggestions for dinner, but he said that there was a large variety of restaurants and to walk the area instead of driving. This was helpful. We walked to different restaurants each night and to the downtown market, bay area and did a lot of sight seeing (we'll take a ghost walk next time).

I've added a photo of our room's front door, which is the first room on the left on the second floor. I think the room number was 261. You can view the various room layouts at the Bluegreen website.

We didn't have problems with waterbugs as others have posted, but we thought that the cleaning crew could have done a better job. Some of the baseboards needed cleaning, the bathroom door had smudges from fingers and a wall patch under the sink was second rate. Dust had also accumulated in a couple of corners in the living room.

Overall, we enjoyed the Inn and look forward to staying there again.

After reading some of the reviews on this site, I must say I was a little apprehensive about booking this resort. Once we got there we were totally relieved. First, the location is the best in Charleston. We were right on East Bay street and only used our vehicle once during our week stay. The best restaurants and shopping are just a walk away.
We walked into the lobby and the staff was very responsive. The valet parking was very convenient and they were super nice. The front desk worked efficiently and we were to our room in no time.
We had a loft which is a one bedroom plan. I recommend it only for a couple of people, because the only bathroom is upstairs and it would be very intrusive for people to be walking upstairs at night etc. But for a couple it is perfect. The room was very clean, fully stocked with utensils and cookware. The room had old hardwood floors, a living room, dining room, full kitchen, a bedroom, bath and closet upstairs. We were in room 229
The best part of the hotel was the staff. After unpacking the someone knocks on the door, and it is the sweet girl from the front desk, who gives us a bag of snacks and drinks and asked to make sure our room was to standards. I was very impressed. Only 2 hotel employees did not say "hello" to us during our entire stay. I became good friends with one of the managers at the front desk, and gave him a couple good cigars. Be good to the people at the front desk because they are a wealth of knowledge about the city, where to go, what to do, etc.
The only thing I can say negative about the resort was some of the other people staying there. We were awaken a couple times from loud children screaming and running down the hallway. But I guess that can happen anywhere.
I loved Charleston much more than Destin FL and Myrtle beach, my former vacation stops in the past, and when I go back, I will definitely stay at LAI.

By the way, go to ebay and get your reservations there. I got mine for under 100 per night over a holiday....not bad for the historic district.

BEWARE! If you stay at the Lodge Alley Inn, be prepared to be harassed. My husband's father and his wife are Bluegreen owners and when we wanted to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary in Charleston, they were kind enough to arrange for us to stay at the Lodge Alley Inn. I grew up in Charleston and knew that the location would be great for a romantic weekend in my home city. However, the so called "guest services" desk refused to let us enjoy the peace and quiet we expected from a high-end Charleston resort. It being our Anniversary, our plans did not include going far from our room--- that was a mistake. The "guest services" desk (which by the way is reached by dialing the number for "sales") thought it would be a good idea to call our room at 9:00 AM to inform us about a "welcome package" with coupons available for us to pick up. Of course 1) we already knew about the welcome package from a note left on our door the previous evening while we were out and 2) we suspected that the coupons were just meant to lure you to the sales desk for the timeshare pitch and we were not interested. If it had only been the one phone call, however rudely it awoke us on our vacation, I probably wouldn't be writing this negative review, but that was not the end of it. We were called twice more that day, the final time occurred after I left specific instructions that we were not to be disturbed via telephone again. It took an in person slightly heated discussion before the phone calls finally stopped and we were afforded the privacy that we sought. I would only recommend this resort to someone who planned on being up early and never in their room for a nap. It is definitely not a place for the disruption free relaxation we had in mind.

Final Note-- The cable TV in our room did not work correctly, and there was some kind of unidentified substances on the back of the bathroom door that looked as if it could have been vomit.

  • Disliked — Being harrassed by the sales people
