“Low key calm”

I had a difficult time finding a hotel in downtown Charleston that was neither a chain nor high-priced luxury. King's finally fit the bill. The staff was informal and pleasant; the facility was clean yet had character; the location was walking distance to everything I was there for. I'm looking forward to visiting again! Only minor issue was the table service at breakfast...it took a bit longer than seemed reasonable since we were trying to make an appointment.

This one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed at. The hotel is very charming, the rooms are very nicely decorated, the beds are really great to sleep in, the airco is bliss for europeans not used to the heat and the service is perfect!

On top of that the hotel is very well located, includes free coffee in the morning, a nice breakfast you can take in the inner patio, free good wines and some cheese for aperitif and sherry in the evening. The staff is extremely friendly, accommodating and will do anything to make you have a pleasant stay.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Charleston!

Your impression of the Kings Courtyard Inn is exactly what we hope every one of our guests takes away with them when they leave the inn. I am glad you enjoyed the inns’ many complimentary amenities like the morning coffee, complimentary breakfast and the afternoon wine and cheese hour. We love to offer these things to our guests. We look forward to your next visit.

We had a lovely time at the Kings Courtyard on a recent ladies trip to Charleston. The entire staff was full of Southern Hospitality. The hotel is very centrally located, with accessible parking. Each evening we enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese, relaxing in the courtyard after a busy day. However, we were a little disappointed that the white wine was not really chilled and they seemed to run out of glasses and plates every evening. Each morning, our breakfast was delivered to our room on china plates with piping hot coffee. The rooms were comfortably appointed, but the bathroom is rather small.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the parking lot, which was fine with us. Not really a view, but I think it was...

We enjoyed our stay. Great room and a pleasant staff. Perfect location in the center of the city. We enjoyed the wine hour before going out to dinner and the glass of sherry in the evening. It was nice to have parking at a reasonable price, but because of the central location we never needed our car. Highly recommend.

Thank you for your review of the Kings Courtyard Inn. Our central location in the heart of the historic district makes for a wonderful stay in Charleston. Our parking lot is a great place to store your car while you enjoy the city by foot. I am glad that you enjoyed the afternoon wine and cheese as well as the evening sherry. These are things that we love to offer our guests. Your recommendation is greatly appreciated. We look forward to your next visit.

Bed and Breakfast feel with all of the benefits of being a larger hotel. The beautiful inn is right on Kings street, walking distance to everything you'd want to explore in Charleston. The look and feel of the establishment is only eclipsed by the wonderful staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, offering advice when asked and always trying to exceed expectations .... Well Done!

This was our second time at the Kings Courtyard Inn. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed, a fireplace (for cooler weather) and a very nice bathroom. Breakfast is served in a small dining room but you can have it delivered to your room, too. In the afternoon, there is wine and cheese and later you can stop by the lobby to have sherry. The courtyard is small and lovely. The staff is very welcoming and extremely helpful. When we return to Charleston again, we will definitely stay at this hotel. The hotel is an easy walk to shopping and the Market area.

Room Tip: Rooms that don't face the Inn next door are a bit quieter.

Reasonably-priced hotels in downtown Charleston are not easy to find, but Kings Courtyard was a good choice. Hidden off a brick alleyway, the old-world Southern ambiance is like being on the set of "A Streetcar Named Desire." Charming decor, comfortable rooms, and helpful desk staff made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Their restaurant recommendations were right on, and they were knowledgable about local attractions. Rooms were clean and the breakfasts were satisfying. Note that parking is extra, no street parking available. But the location is great for walking tours of the city, with many interesting sights and shops nearby. We will be back!

Thank you for reviewing Kings Courtyard Inn. Charleston is a unique and beautiful city and the best way to live it is to stay and experience it first hand. Parking your car and letting our concierges recommend sites based on your personal interests, is the best way to enjoy Charleston. I am thrilled that you enjoyed our inns historic charm and helpful staff. We look forward to your next visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
