Great place to stay for a night, or several nights! Quaint hotel with old world charm, the AC and elevator are cool and efficient, the rooms are very quiet, clean, and comfortable; everything about, and everyone at King's Courtyard Inn make you feel like you are at home. Exceptional recommendations for food and activities from the staff. We opted to have our complimentary continental breakfast in the room and were delighted with fresh baked poppy seed muffins, cinnamon rolls, and croissants, with delicious OJ and hot coffee and bananas each morning. We loved the 5-6 PM social in the courtyard, met some lovely people and shared our Charleston recommendations and adventures. It's an easy walk to everything, we recommend catching the FREE Trolley at King and Market Street, the King/Market loop takes about 15 minutes and it's a good way to see much of the city, hop on and hop off. The trolley comes about every 10-15 minutes. City Market is a few blocks away. Parking in Charleston is a nightmare! We were glad to park and lock our car in the $12 a day parking behind the Inn. The parking is a bit tight if you have a large vehicle, which was not an issue with our Honda Fit. Next time we visit, it be in the fall or spring, and we stay here!

Room Tip: Our east facing room 302 overlooked the parking lot, it was quiet, had morning , and was located acr...

This hotel is in the perfect location. Right in the center of town. It is a short walk to the water and the city center.
Our room was very quiet and comfortable.
The hotel has convenient and secure parking in the back of the building.

I attended a wedding in Charleston and stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn. It was a very charming establishment. The service from Natalie, the concierge, far exceeded my expectations. The cab that I arranged to take me to the airport didn't show. She went out of her way to get a replacement for me. As a result, I made my plane. Thank you so much!

I only stayed at this hotel for one night at the end of a week-long vacation, but greatly enjoyed it! Both rooms for our party were on the ground floor, which proved to be perfect as you can literally walk out of your room to enjoy the free breakfast and wine hour, as well as to sit at the outdoor tables in the back of the hotel (which we enjoyed late in the evening once the weather cooled). Noise was not an issue on the ground floor. My only criticism of the hotel is that the rooms feel a bit worn - updating of the carpeting in the rooms, bathroom fixtures, painting etc. would go a long way to making this a perfect hotel.

The location of this hotel is excellent - right on King Street with tons of shops, easy walking distance to tourist attractions and the waterfront, as well as to numerous restaurants and bars. The wine hour was great - several wines to choose from and cheeses/dips as well. Free breakfast was standard (bagel, cereal, and yogurt or pastries) but that is all you need for a quick breakfast. There is the option to pay for hot dishes if you prefer (not expensive either). The breakfast staff was not the friendliest, but were efficient enough.

I wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay here again in the future!

My daughter and I flew in from different cities to visit the lovely town of Charleston. We stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn and were so impressed by its wonderful ambiance, service and location. The Inn is so convenient to the city's attractions, which is one of the main reasons we stayed there. More importantly, the staff was phenomenal. James (the concierge) greeted us with a friendly hello each time we came in and helped us with directions to locations outside of the city. (Being in the tea business, I wanted to see the Charleston Tea Plantation). Breakfast was complimentary at the Kings Courtyard. Each morning we were given the option of bagel, granola, juice, tea/coffee and fresh fruit. We could have also ordered off the menu, I think for an additional charge, but the complimentary one was really nice. Our friendly and professional waitress remembered exactly what we had ordered from the day before and served us promptly. The Inn serves a wine and cheese hour from 5-6 each day, and brandy in the evening in decanters in the lobby. The building itself is very quaint with fountained courtyards for enjoying the morning or afternoon. Parking is right in back of the Inn and is shared by other establishments and we never had a problem finding a spot. A fee is added onto the bill for this. Needless to say, we really enjoyed our visit to this fine Inn and would definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Thank you for such a lovely, detailed review of your mother-daughter excursion to the Kings Courtyard Inn. I am thrilled that we provided such a perfect place to gather and enjoy Charleston. Your note about our exceptional staff is appreciated, as it reinforces the value we place on personalized service and Southern hospitality. We look forward to hosting you both again.

Stayed here two nights. Clean and nice. The breakfast downstairs was in a cute courtyard, but the service was not that great. There was only one waitress, and she was doing her best to serve everyone. They could have had a buffet and moved people in and out more quickly. The front desk staff were very knowledgable and helpful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Guests may also choose to order a full breakfast from the kitchen. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
