“Charming and was very impressed with the service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

I attended a wedding in Charleston and stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn. It was a very charming establishment. The service from Natalie, the concierge, far exceeded my expectations. The cab that I arranged to take me to the airport didn't show. She went out of her way to get a replacement for me. As a result, I made my plane. Thank you so much!

I only stayed at this hotel for one night at the end of a week-long vacation, but greatly enjoyed it! Both rooms for our party were on the ground floor, which proved to be perfect as you can literally walk out of your room to enjoy the free breakfast and wine hour, as well as to sit at the outdoor tables in the back of the hotel (which we enjoyed late in the evening once the weather cooled). Noise was not an issue on the ground floor. My only criticism of the hotel is that the rooms feel a bit worn - updating of the carpeting in the rooms, bathroom fixtures, painting etc. would go a long way to making this a perfect hotel.

The location of this hotel is excellent - right on King Street with tons of shops, easy walking distance to tourist attractions and the waterfront, as well as to numerous restaurants and bars. The wine hour was great - several wines to choose from and cheeses/dips as well. Free breakfast was standard (bagel, cereal, and yogurt or pastries) but that is all you need for a quick breakfast. There is the option to pay for hot dishes if you prefer (not expensive either). The breakfast staff was not the friendliest, but were efficient enough.

I wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay here again in the future!

My daughter and I flew in from different cities to visit the lovely town of Charleston. We stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn and were so impressed by its wonderful ambiance, service and location. The Inn is so convenient to the city's attractions, which is one of the main reasons we stayed there. More importantly, the staff was phenomenal. James (the concierge) greeted us with a friendly hello each time we came in and helped us with directions to locations outside of the city. (Being in the tea business, I wanted to see the Charleston Tea Plantation). Breakfast was complimentary at the Kings Courtyard. Each morning we were given the option of bagel, granola, juice, tea/coffee and fresh fruit. We could have also ordered off the menu, I think for an additional charge, but the complimentary one was really nice. Our friendly and professional waitress remembered exactly what we had ordered from the day before and served us promptly. The Inn serves a wine and cheese hour from 5-6 each day, and brandy in the evening in decanters in the lobby. The building itself is very quaint with fountained courtyards for enjoying the morning or afternoon. Parking is right in back of the Inn and is shared by other establishments and we never had a problem finding a spot. A fee is added onto the bill for this. Needless to say, we really enjoyed our visit to this fine Inn and would definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Thank you for such a lovely, detailed review of your mother-daughter excursion to the Kings Courtyard Inn. I am thrilled that we provided such a perfect place to gather and enjoy Charleston. Your note about our exceptional staff is appreciated, as it reinforces the value we place on personalized service and Southern hospitality. We look forward to hosting you both again.

Stayed here two nights. Clean and nice. The breakfast downstairs was in a cute courtyard, but the service was not that great. There was only one waitress, and she was doing her best to serve everyone. They could have had a buffet and moved people in and out more quickly. The front desk staff were very knowledgable and helpful.

Ours was a trip with our two twenty-something kids and their spouses, so we got to see three rooms while we were there. One of those had its own balcony overlooking one of the courtyards which was an extra treat. The Inn worked out well for us in that we could all look out from our rooms and see who was already reading the paper and eating breakfast in the courtyard. We made a point of enjoying the wine and cheese in the courtyard each evening. Basically, sitting in the open air courtyards was a nice break from a traditional gathering place at a hotel. The staff serving the food worked diligently to make our stay nice.
We found (the last day!) how helpful the concierge could be on a restaurant recommendation!
We had no complaints.

We stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn over the July 4th weekend. The hotel is conveniently located in the historical downtown of Charleston, close to many of the attractions. The hotel has several courtyards within the hotel which you can't notice from the outside. Parking options include a lot behind the hotel as well as a garage on the other side of the alley. The lot costs $12 per night, which is a discount from the regular rate. You pick up a pass from the hotel which allows you to exit as many times as you want.

As the hotel is a historical landmark, there are some quirks to the place which adds to the ambiance. The refrigerator is located in the bathroom and the TV was located on the side of the room making it hard for everyone to see it. However while this might be a deterrent at most other places , here it is no problem.

The two queen beds were comfortable and offered a good night's sleep. The air-conditioner worked well and was quiet unlike most hotels. There is limited closet and drawer space for your clothes, which could be a problem if there are several people staying in the room. We had a view out of the window of the parking lot and the Days Inn across the way. While not spectacular, it was still worthwhile. The shower in the bathroom worked well, except it was difficult to get hot water the first morning. Every other morning there was plenty of hot water.

What sets the hotel apart from most others are the extras. Breakfast in the morning provides several different options. You can select two free options, one that includes a selection of pastries and the other yogurt and a bagel. There is also a selection of cereal and yogurt as well. You can also choose from a selection of hot food as well for an additional charge. You can either eat in the breakfast room or thru room service at no extra charge from what I could tell.

Each evening from 1700-1800 there is free wine, cheese and other snacks. There is a nice selection of both white and red wine. Not only was the wine very good but it was free flowing as well. After 1800 there is a selection of either dry or sweet sherry available in the lobby. Coffee was also located in the lobby as well in the morning.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Charleston, there is not a better location than the historical section and the Kings Courtyard Inn.

We stayed here one night during the summer because we got a great deal online and the location is perfect. Complimentary sherry and breakfast make the room charming. Be warned that you must pay to park in the lot but prices are reasonable. Would stay here again.

Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Guests may also choose to order a full breakfast from the kitchen.
