“A Comfy Stay Away..........yet Close!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

A great B&B. Would go again in a minute. Well tended to, comfy bed and ammenities, iced tea in the aft, wonderful buffet breakfast in the morn, and a short (2 blocks) to the university or into downtown. Parking included. Go!

Room Tip: They all appeared to be good. We chose a larger one in the adjacent building.

Just off two main streets. We stayed in #6 in main house - very spacious, huge comfortable bed (big posts), fireplace (spring, so don't know if it works), small tv (we don't care), small refrig. Not noisy, even tho a very busy evening downtown, We walked about 3/4 mile to Noisy Oyster and Vendue area. Charleston is esp fabulous in the spring and fall, of course. Lots of great offerings in the market and surrounding area. Lots of cute Usually love the rooftop areas at sunset but did not try this time. Not far from Mt. Pleasant and both very popular beaches - Folly Field and Isle of Palms. Great Fathers' Wknd.

Room Tip: Our #6 was lovely - don't know about the others. Quiet on Sat night - which was very busy in th...

I have been staying at the Barksdale House for many many years. I love Charleston, SC and everything that it has to offer in the downtown area, and one of my favorite parts has been staying at this B&B; however I have watched this hot spot slowly decline over the past few years. We recently stayed for the Spoleto arts festival in early Summer 2014. Upon arrival as we walked in the back entrance we noticed shingles were missing from all around the walkway beside the fountain, it was easy to trip, and someone just left the shingles stacked in piles next to the stairs. The garden or lack there of hardly existed, much less was in its prime. We stayed in room #8 a small red room on the 3rd floor. Upon walking in our room everything seemed dingy and there was a very musty odor. Curtains were tattered, boards in the bathroom looked rotten, paint was peeling off the ceiling, inlay and chunks were missing from the ornamental wooden bed frame. The air conditioning unit in our room barley worked, and the one on the floor below us ran so loudly that the whole floor shook. The room did have a refrigerator, but if you turned it down low enough to keep your beverages cold it made a loud squealing noise. A refrigerator was available in the "community" kitchen, but they have now started locking up the kitchen at night. Also if you were expecting breakfast in bead that is also a thing of the past. The only breakfast available was a small sampling of whatever the house decided to offer for the day. For the price next time I will be staying at a first class hotel like the King Charles Inn, Francis Marion, the Mills House, or Planters Inn......

I stayed in the Carriage House at the Barksdale House Inn. The room was enormous with lots of windows and it had a dated, but quaint bathroom.

The location was good - we walked everywhere in Charleston, but it is a bit further compared to some of the other hotels. Still a 5-25 minute walk will get you to all major highlights and restaurants within Downtown Charleston. It was very quiet at night, which you might not get in more central locations.

Breakfast was homemade and very tasty. Great fruit and I looked forward to the hot choices on the weekend.

I peeked into some of the rooms in the main house, and they looked spacious and bright as well.

I would definitely recommend staying here.

Wonderful location for those wanting to forego auto usage as much as possible. Weekend breakfast had freshly prepared hot items-weekday usually just a baked item. Room 12 in the carriage house was spacious and furnished in keeping with the period theme . The inn keepers we met at check in were friendly and welcoming-shout out to Kelsey, who promptly responded to an email question, and MJ who greeted us upon arrival for being kind and thoughtful. For tourists such as ourselves, more info about the free shuttle system would be helpful, especially on the hotter muggy days.

The rooms are large, the breakfast is wonderful and the location is great! Free parking is a rarity in Charleston, so this is even more special. All of the people were very nice and helpful. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main house with king beds are right on the street, but it isn't a busy street o...

My wife & I stayed two nights here on our recent travels up the eastern seaboard.
Convenient central location for all the local attractions.
Checked in quickly in spite of being very early by a delightful & charming lady.
The Inn is a lovely period building with loads of southern charm & style.
Our room was a short walk away from the reception area across the car park, which was handy for unloading our luggage from the car, my wife dose not travel light.
The room although basic was clean & comfortable with the usual coffee facilities, hair dryer etc.
Great buffet breakfast, fresh tasty fruit etc served by two lovely ladies.
Good value accommodation in central location, I would definitely recommend this establishment.
Plenty of free car parking spaces.
