“Great place to be when in Charleston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2011

We love staying here. It is close to everything in town within walking distance and you can come back to the house and sit around doing nothing. The staff are great and the food excellent.

A family of "Barksdales" converged on this historic property
for a "90" birthday celebration !

The inn was quaint and very well kept..the courtyard area was
especially fun for breakfast and family gatherings.

It is so close to King Street which made it fun for shopping and
going to the market!

We spent 4 wonderful days here. The service was excellent and the location of the Inn is ideal for getting to the beaches and for walking downtown. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the happenings in and around Charleston and happy to share their insghts and recommendations. The room was large, comfortable, and very clean. We also enjoyed taking breakfast on the porch. If we return, we will definitely stay here.

10 rooms in the main house and 4 rooms in the separate building, the "Carriage House". Each room was decorated differently. Our room (#11) was spacious, clean and nice. Everyone at the Inn was helpful and friendly. The Inn is convenient for walking to all of the downtown locations. I would stay there again on another trip to Charleston.

The Inn is a large building with 3 stories, each with several guest rooms. We stayed on the top floor, and the stairs really weren't a problem. The room was spacious, clean, and very nicely decorated. Good temperature control. The bathroom was a little small and rickety, but had all of the essentials.

Very close & walkable to all the excitement. No noise issues at night. You are given an entrance fob so that you can come & go as you need during the evening. The front staff were helpful upon arrival and departure.

Free & easy parking. Breakfast was just ok. Watery eggs and breakfast meats. Nice fresh fruit. Coffee, tea, orange juice, cereal available. Not terrible, but I was hoping for better, especially on the weekend.

Free parking a real plus in Charleston. Hotel is within walking distance to historic downtown. This could be a plus during spring and fall. Free trolley is a real plus. Chocolates on pillow is sweet treat. The high speed internet is possible only in the main house. Our room could have used more hangers. Bed high - could have used a step stool to get into bed.

Room Tip: No elevators. Reserve lower level rooms.

Thank you for reviewing our Inn. Complimentary parking is such a rare option in Downtown Charleston! I'm sure you found that a Free Trolley stop is just at the end of our block. I hope it was an added help at the end of a long, hot day walking around our lovely city to just hop on the trolley for a short ride back to the Inn. Hope to see you again in the future!

My wife and I stayed at the Barksdale for a night on our honeymoon. Neither of us had ever stayed in a bed and breakfast and weren't sure what to expect. It was a unique experience being in an older home. The location is great if you want to stay in the middle of downtown Charleston. Everything is within walking distance.
