From all my previous reviews, I think both my blog name on here and number of places we've experienced are a good indicator of how much we truly do like to dine out - and also support local, independent restaurants.
No matter how many times we've been - we always love when we must spend time in Charleston, even if it is for business, and then, we are very good at turning them into pleasure trips as well!
This time we opted for a restaurant that we'd heard of - but were not familiar with.
Greeted by a most friendly bartender, we opted to try their patio dining, but discovered when seating ourselves that the tables are much too high for the chair size - making for most uncomfortable seating.
With only one table seated indoors, we instead elected to share their space at the one small lower level room, located adjacent to the bar.
Our server was cordial and his effort of being professional was much appreciated - but even so, he was unable to camouflage his inexperience in the arena of being a seasoned server. Regardless - he was a nice guy and making the effort!
Food & beverage line up included:
Bottle of Campo Enarazo from Spain - Excellent!! ( and a good price point!)
Appetizer: Evening special - Bruschetta topped with pureed squash, arugula and cheese. Bread was burnt on the edges to the point of overpowering the flavors topping it. We told our server - but he did not respond with an alternative for us.
Salad: Split order of Beet Salad: Very good mix of flavors!
Husband's entree: Flash fried seabass. Good - not outstanding.
My entree: Veal Scallopini. Big disappointment. Chewy, saturated in olive oil and lacked flavorl - except salt! Very, very salty!
As a result, my husband ended up eating most of it. (I can't have allot of salt due to health issues).
I told our server of my disappointment - and his response was 'but did you enjoy it?!' Hmmmmm ...
Obviously he did not inform the owner/hostess or the chef. Or if he did, they blew it off and neither approached the table - even though she walked through the dining room a number of times while we were dining, she never once stopped by our table.
Dinner bill exceeded well over $100.
Were we pleased with this experience? No. Will we go back? No.
PS) Place could use some updating. Quite dingy ...
