“Favorite museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012 via mobile

Always love to visit this museum...so much to see and you can't beat the 'old museum' items, especially the mummy. Many items that really make you think about the past (amputation kit...). We only had about an hour and fifteen minutes because they close at 5, but it was almost enough time, of course you could spend all day there. A $10 well spent!

“Great way to walk through history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

This is a nice museum to walk through history. It is a nice place to go with your family, friends or just by yourself. You can take as much time as you need to walk through the museum. Admission is reasonable. The only problem is no staff other than the lady who takes admission downstairs. If you had a question, there was no one to ask.

“Lots to see for a very resonable price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

The museum is now focusing on southern history, however it still has the collection from when it was the first museum. In the section where this is located there are things from many places in the world including taxidermy specimens of all sorts of animals etc. The price is great too, you can see the whole thing for more or split it up and not visit the houses for a lot less. Seeing it all also gets a discount so if you have more time that would be worth it. My husband and I only visited the main museum, but we were very impressed.

“Small Space Packed With Displays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

The Museum is right across from the visitors center and has a replica of the Hunley in front of it. While it is small in size it is packed with displays including a special silver and textile display.

I do agree with a previous poster that the lighting could be better in places. I also agree if you are one to read everything that is presented you could be there ll day. We did enjoy it and would recommend a visit.

“Lots of artifacts, not much coherence”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

The textile exhibit was great. I enjoyed seeing fall wear through the ages and I like the blend of clothing for both children and adults, day wear and evening finery. Just wish there had been hats on display also. The embroidery samples were interesting, but so poorly lit that it was hard to see the details. The wealth of other historical items on display would be much more interesting if they were used to tell a story. Only the rice plantation section captured my interest.
