“Perfect Stay”

I wish there were a rating level named \"exceeds
excellent\". Everything was absolutely perfect. Staff courtesy, property cleanliness, and the extra touches w breakfast, wine and goodies thru out the day. All this plus the benefit of location, location, location. Oh, did I mention the bed? Slept like a baby.

We just got back from our stay at the Harbourview Inn. Very nice and clean hotel. Staff was very friendly. Location was very good. Within walking distance to market street, waterfront, and many restaurants. My only complaint was that when I booked a room I wanted a room with a view of the harbour. This is also more expensive. The problem is that anything on the 2nd floor and lower has really no view at all. Make sure you request a 3rd floor or higher room. Our room had no view at all. I did complain and they gave us 10% off the room rate, but I should have received the price of the lower rate room. If you drive they charge 15$ a day for the valet and garage. The garbage trucks and street sweepers were a little noisy early in the am, but otherwise it is a very quiet hotel. Would stay here again

We selected the city of Charleston and the Harbourview Inn based entirely on the reviews we had seen on tripadvisor.com. All those who completed reviews before me provided great and helpful info and definitely steered us in the right direction with the city and the hotel.

We arrived at the Harbourview Inn late Sunday evening, November 11, 2007. I had specifically requested a harbor view room and paid the extra money for that view. The front desk staff told us when we arrived that we would only be spending one night in our 2nd floor room, because the 3rd floor room would not be available until the next day. Of course it was dark and who could see any water that night - not a big deal to us. It was my 50th birthday trip and we were in a particularly good mood so it was not an issue. FYI for future travelers...although they consider the 2nd floor room a harbor view room, it is not when there are leaves on the trees. The view is obscured by trees, buildings, etc. The 3rd floor view is MUCH better.

When we did arrive in our room the first night, there was a bottle of champagne on ice with a card wishing me a happy birthday. I thought this was a nice touch. The snacks and beverages being available for the guests throughout the day and evening was also a very nice touch.

The room was beautiful, well appointed, painted a beautiful light airy color and quite a nice size. The bathroom was very nice, shower pressure was excellent. The room and bathroom were immaculate. They provided turndown service on November 13, which was my birthday although we hadn't requested it. The temper-pedic mattress was nice for a temporary stay but neither my husband or I felt we'd like to sleep on it for a long period of time. The folks at the front desk and the bellmen/valets were all extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating.

We had an opportunity to have dinner at Blossom restaurant our first night in town (about a block and a half from the hotel) and it was absoltuely wonderful!!!! Each morning we had a complimentary breakfast delivered to our room, which was such a nice treat. We went on the Gullah Tour on Monday, 11/12 which was excellent. The tour guide and lecturer, Mr. Alphonso Brown, was outstanding and made the Gullah culture and Charleston history both come to life. When the tour ended,we strolled through the market place and ended the evening with dinner at Anson's. What a treat! 2 nights and 2 excellent restaurants.

Finally, my husband and I did have occasion to really put the Harbourview's great customer service and hospitality to the test. My husband became ill on the morning of 11/13 (my birthday) and we ended up spending the better part of the day between the Doctor's Care urgent care facility in Mt. Pleasant and the emergency room at Roper St. Francis hospital (the only place to go if you happen to get sick in Charleston - the most fabulous hospital ever!). They kept him that night and all of the next day and evening. We were originally scheduled to check out of the hotel on 11/14, but with him having to stay in the hospital, I asked for an additional night which was done without a moment's hesitation. When we did actually check out at noon on 11/15, my husband asked to speak to Jack, the hotel manager, and explained our situation. Jack was kind enough to make an adjustment to our bill. We thought this was above and beyond and a great example of customer service.

Since we only got to see Charleston for 1 day and 2 nights, we have every intention of returning to really experience the city. The Harbourview will be our destination of choice.

Harbor View Inn located in Charleston, South Carolina is a lovely romantic hotel.
We selected the Harbor View for our Honeymoon trip and did not want to leave. The hotel is clean and located on the Harbor. Our view of the harbor was lovely to wake up to every morning. You have a continental breakfast brought to your room every morning or you can select eating on the roof terrace.
You are walking to distance to all the upscaled restaurants and shopping. The East Battery homes are a must to see which is walking distance as well.
The staff at the Harbor View are all friendly and helpful. They made sure we knew how to go to any attraction we selected.
In the evening they had a wonderful wine selection and cheese trays that were great before you went out, and when you returned you could smell freshly baked cookies every night.

If you are planning a trip to Charleston, South Carolina this a must place to stay.

We stayed two nights at the Harbourview Inn and are so glad that we chose this hotel for our long-weekend getaway. The location is fantastic - it is far enough away from Market Street and the restaurants / bars so that it is not too noisy, yet only blocks away, so that it is easy to walk to great restaurants, historical homes, tours, etc...

It was a little confusing upon arrival, as there wasn't really a clearly marked area for valet service and you can't self-park in the hotel garage. Valet parking is $15 / night, but parking is at a premium in this town, so I wasn't upset to pay the charge. Once we figured out that we just pull the car in front of the hotel entrance on Vendue Range, we walked into the hotel and were greeted by a very friendly valet / bell hop. The valet / bell hops were probably the most useful people in the hotel to offer suggestions for dinner / tours / etc... We found the front staff no more helpful than the guidebook that we had with canned reviews and little additional information to offer, whereas the bell hops gave us thorough reviews and descriptions and told us where to avoid.

The check-in process was smooth and we made it up to our room, which was very nice! Two double-poster beds topped with posturepedic matresses (these were a bit odd to sleep on and I think I would have personally preferred a pillow-top mattress). The furnishings were nice and slightly southern in style. The room had beautiful high-ceilings, however, unfortunately our view left something to be desired (overlooking a power grid...but at least there was a nice palm tree right outside our window).

The bathroom was spacious and the shower / tub was fine (good water pressure). Bath amenities were nice and had all the extras (bath salts, cotton balls and q-tips, shampoo, lotion, soap, etc... though no hair conditioner). Two waffled cotton robes were provided.

The extra nice perks at this hotel included: all-day coffee / tea / hot chocolate, evening wine / cheese / fruit display, breakfast served to your room or rooftop terrace (we opted for bagels with cream cheese and butter, juice, hot tea, granola, yogurt, hard boiled egg, but could have selected pastries, or a low-carb option instead). Some reviewers were not wowed by the breakfast, but this filling option was perfect for us, as we usually don't eat a hot breakfast anyway. The bagels were toasted and warm and the convenience of having breakfast in bed at no additional charge was nice.

Finally, the lobby had a nice fire going all the time, access to the internet and printer (great to print boarding passes for the return trip home!), candy jars with M&Ms and jelly beans, book or menus from recommended restaurants.

Positives: great location (quiet and beautiful - steps from the harbor), helpful and friendly bell hops, large bathroom, beautiful furnishings, nice amenities

Negatives: mattress was a little strange, front desk staff not that friendly

  • Liked — Beautiful room, extra amenities (breakfast delivered to room, afternoon wine / cheese, etc..), large bathroom, great location
  • Disliked — Front desk staff could have provided more detail about recommendations

I stayed here for one night on a business trip - all I can say is, WOW!

The room was amazing, with 2, ultra comfy, queen size, four poster beds. The bathroom was beautiful - pure luxury.

The location could not be better - walking distance to King and Market Streets , with they have to offer, and right across from the water.

When in Charleston, I usually stay in a Hilton property by the airport - this was a real treat - an escape from the ordinary chain hotel experience.

I was there on business, but I would definitely love to return one day for a longer visit with my spouse.
