“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

We'd had a bad experience the previous night so cancelled the second night and came here: very glad we did. Our room was good and everything worked OK. The Wifi was excellent, which was such a relief after the night before. No breakfast but we carry the fixings anyway and, if you don't, there's the restaurant on the premises. We ate there that evening and had a good meal. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We loved the location, right in the middle of everything, so we walked and left the car in the parking lot. Would definitely stay here again.

The good: There is an outdoor pool. The property is located in the middle of the historic district. If you are interested in the Civil War stuff, history in general, the market, or the aquarium, this hotel is centrally located. Very convenient to the cruise terminal and Port of Charleston. Great shopping in walking distance. There are many great restaurants in easy walking distance, and a Harris Teeter (Grocery Store) about 3/4 of a mile away. The price cannot be beat in this area of town. Other nearby hotels are 2x-3x as expensive. The front desk attendant was friendly and helpful, and supplied us with a giant pile of towels on requests. There were lovely flowers around the second-storey railings. Free wifi worked well.

The not-so-good: The hotel is in need of an update--the comforters are not exactly attractive, the carpet is not the cleanest, and yes, you will find stains and small holes in the bathroom walls. The parking lot is not adequate to the size of the property--if you arrive late and the hotel is full, you will have to park in a paid garage around the corner, but the hotel will reimburse you. There is no free breakfast, but there are so many good restaurants around.

All things considered, we would DEFINITELY stay here again when in Charleston. It's a great location, nice staff, and the most affordable place in the area.

Room Tip: There are two stories, no elevator, exterior entrances.

I spoke with a gentleman at the front desk who was very nice and helpful . There was a female named Tasha however that was extremely rude on multiple occasions . She asked if I had the "right one" when I checked in and took her a moment to actually find my reservation . When I called for towels she said "housekeeping will be on your floor at 9 o'clock " she hung up on us once when we were asking about reimbursement for parking since their lot was full. Tasha needs a new profession outside the customer service industry .

The Charleston Days Inn Historic District is a fine hotel choice for a stay in the heart of historic Charleston. Don't come here expecting a 5 star hotel....it is, however, a fantastic choice for its price and location. It was clean and comfortable with a very accommodating staff, at a third or less of the price of similarly located hotels. Charleston is such an amazing city....who spends their time in the hotel anyway? No frills here, but a great choice for a stay in Charleston that allows you to walk anywhere you want to go in the historic area. Oh....and the parking is free. I'm giving a " very good" rating based on price and location. I would definitely choose this hotel again.

Only feet away from Market St. Some great places to eat close by. The pool was small but very clean and was a plus since most hotels in the historic district don't have a pool. No charge on site parking was also great.

I stayed for 2 nights & the location is GREAT. You can walk to everything. However, the room was dingy, carpet was ripped & coming away from wall in many places. The room connected to next room (locked on my side) but person in the adjacent room was violently banging on the door at 1:00 a.m. Location is awesome, but the room was in horrible condition. Very disappointed!!

I booked and then read the reviews and was frightened at what I was going to find. The front desk staff (especially Ms. D) was the best. Because of her hospitality and the great location, I would stay again. From the outside it looks very quaint and inviting but the overall condition of the facility and the rooms cleanliness were not the best. There were many employees, most of them nice but the management/owners must take responsibility for quality and step up their game. Recommend they spend some money on carpet cleaning for inside areas and pressure washing for outside areas and get a new office chair for the lobby, only $99 for goodness sake. I could have complained but instead I took a little time and tidied up for myself to keep my sanity and the positive vacation vibes flowing. After wiping off the surfaces+appliances and freshening the air a bit in my temporary space, I slept well, took hot showers, enjoyed the pool and criss-crossed the city having quite an enjoyable and educational time.
